As I posted a few days back about a rumor of Mercedes doing a modern interpretation of the 300SL Gullwing, I began to wonder. Dodge is doing a modern interpretation of the Challenger, Chevrolet the Camaro, Ford the Mustang, the Corvette lines can be traced back some time, and the list goes on. With everything being sort of rehashed and modernized these days, are there any cars today that are being produced that 20, 30, 40 years from now will be modernized for their time? I'm really struggling to think of one...

The Corvette is one continuos car that keeps re-inventing itself. Its hardly a 'retro' car. Elsewise Porsche and Ferrari could easily be accused of the same.

I'm sure the Porsche 911 will be on it's who-knows-what iteration still, Civic Si, Viper will probably die off then maybe come back, Accords and Camrys, mini-trucks, factory hot rods (Chevy 454 SS truck, Typhoon, Cyclone, Buick GNX)...just my guess.

Just as in Real Estate and the stock market, the automotive industry too is cyclical. Patterns of human mentality, what they want, what they desire, what they need, what the industry is willing to give us inevitably change. Granted the Corvette has stuck around all these years, but look at the market today. 40 years since the death of the Ford GT40, and the likes of the Hemi ______, Camaro, GTO, etc. are coming, or have made a come back. Just as the Viper is the modern interpritation to the long gone Shelby Cobra so too I believe it will die off and arise from the ashes in another 40 years to be reinvented once again...automotive life cycles.
