I was born and raised in Shanghai, came to NYC at age of 14 and lived here for 20 yrs. Since '03 I went back to Shanghai every yr, the growth and development is insane. I love the place alot, and decide to get a pad there and live there few months out of the year. I know there are a good number of Ferrari's there, based on my conversation with GM of the dealership, also from my observation(spotted 360's F430's and a black 599 when I was in town for the F1 race last month), I am wondering if any of you actually check this forum? I'd love to get together with some of you guys to chill on regular basis. Meet for dinner/drinks, hit the club/lounge/bar, talk about metal/skin, etc etc etc. I currently drive a Stradale in NY, and will acquire a F430 spider after I settle in Shanghai. Hit me back if you are out there and interested.

There is a Ferrari club in Shanghai, you need to talk to the dealer about it, I never joined it as we used to have our own club which basically was just Judge4e, Spice Glider and I. Eric and Karen had three Ferraris but sadly they were in the US, so we only had my 308 to play with. Eventually They returned to the US and I moved my Chinese base to Australia and now only commute and not to often these days. We tried to form the first club but got nowhere with Ferrari with it. Then once the dealership opened then the locals created one of their own. I went to a track day organized by Italian motors from Hong Kong and we had over 70 cars at the track though some came from HK, Singapore, Beijing, a collector from Xiamen brought a 360 he has at least a dozen pristine cars in his garage, he parked his plus 8 Morgan at my house once, it was like it was brand new, his favorite user car was either his Gallardo or his Murcielago seen often in the streets of Xiamen, he also had his friend with his 360 at the track. If you go to Xiamen they and a few other lesser cars go for a run on Sunday afternoon, and normally end back at the resteraunts near the Marco Polo Hotel late afternoon. My Ferrari is still in Shanghai sitting under cover in the underground car park, it has not moved now for 18 months, so it will need a bit of work when I next get back to Shanghai, probably in the new year.
Hey dude, Same story with me, but lived in Melbourne for the past 12 years. I go back very often, up to 6 to 7 times a year. Catch up in Shanghai bro next time you're there.
When I imported my 308 to Shanghai, people used to surround the car at the traffic lights, made it difficult to get about. Driving was never good in Puxi side but in Pudong or on the higways it was great. But even then there were many problems as the even the new roads often had Ferrari sized pot holes in them. Back then no support from anyone for the maintanence of the car, life was tough fortunately the car was very reliable and never ever stopped on the road with a anything other than a broken hose. A trip to the local Benz dealer found a hose that could be cut to size, and with the removal af the front wheel and glass fibre mouldings, a small mechanic fitted into the spare wheel well and changed the offending hose and as there was plenty of hose left over he changed all the front water hoses at the same time. Now this was in a street in the east of Shanghai, ( acctually where near where they built the F1 Track later) it certainly got a crowed watching the Ferrari pit stop. While I supervised and my wife drank coffee in a small chinese resteraunt just a hundred mets away.
Wow, it must have been quite an adventure for you. Just curious, how do they tax a foreigner who self-imports like you? Do they have an inspection centre that cars must go through etc? Is yours a RHD or LHD? J
Mine is a LHD and getting in to China was a very difficult task as it was already to old to imported into China. Cars are only allowed to be 15 years old then scrapped. (you would not think so to look around) The customs and Tax were very hard work and took months and a visit to every office they have in Shanghai and Wai Gow Chow. Once here it could not pass the emmision test, China have the strictest emmission test of any country, (for forign cars). So it became a queation of Guanxi. I changed the province, and used my Guanxi to have it tested and passed so I could drive it. But driving on out of province plates I am not allowed on the elevated roads nor the town center on some days. However no one has dared to stop me when I did drive there and that was often. One of the most frightening things used to be drivers coming along side and taking photos and not looking where they were going, very dangerous. Its all good fun in the end though.
Michael, I know who Eirc is, he is on another Ferrari forum I am participating. I think I will get info from dealer on the local club that was formed, that's what I was looking for. I just want to chill with locals who has similar interests and hobbies.
Too much trouble not worth it, unless you have some insane hook-ups. A F430 coupe goes for 2 mil Yuan, that's very accepatble compared to the North America price with some mark-up. You don't need to wait on it either.
