With the Tsunami and all the other things this organization helps out, regardless of politics, regardless of religion. They are one place that you know is not a scam, not someone sending the money to Nigeria or going to line the pockets of a con man.

They are always the first in and last out. Both here when there is a disaster and anyplace in the world. I have seen them in action in more countries than I can count.

instead of just "Saying Prayers" for those affected try and help as you can.

    I just donated

    I hope you will too

Red Cross wanted to keep a lot of the money that was donated for 9/11 and "save it for another time".

Save the flames please, this is serious and is by no means meant to come off as a braggart:

I have assembled a commitment from 5 of my clients and myself to each match any donation made by the people here of up to $500 a piece. Basically, every $100 donation becomes $700. If you have donated to the Red Cross already, or if this motivates you to do it, simply send me an PM, IM, email, or a phone call with the amount you donated so that we can follow through with out commitment.

We are all citizens of this planet, and we CAN make a difference with this. Some of us here have the means, others don't and that is fine. Please donate whatever you can and then let me know how much, and we will each match it (up to $500).

    IM(AIM): GTaggartWilson
    email: gentry%AT%graphiqdezine.com
tel: 713-777-9656. I wont be answering this phone, so just leave a message with how much you have donated.

Thank you to all of those who have answered the call for help, and thank you in advance to all of those who have already answered.

If you aren't comfortable informing me how much you have donated, that is fine. For anyone who has donated, but is not comfortable divulging that information, just inform me that you HAVE donated, and we will make a minimum match of $25 a piece.

    https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp

As a note, if you don't trust my URL or you are skeptical, simply visit the Red Cross's website, click the international donation link in red at the top of the page, proceed with your donation, then let me know.

It is not a flame. The Red Cross was implicated in spending almost 50% of the funds for the 9/11 families for "admin" and feature events. The director even was forced to resign over it. But they have consistently refused to allow an outside audit of their books. Donations dropped over 80% in 2002 due to it and are still not back up.

Other than blood, they do a good job there, I will never give to them again and since that is the topic of the thread I will mention it as it is 100% our duty to know what we give to.

    As for the earthquake, here is a list of others to donate to that I got from CNN. I use Dr's without borders;

Hey Doc, we are also willing to match for Drs. W/O borders (one of the clients participating is a doctor who spent 6 months in Mogadishu and 5 months in South Africa with DW/OB). So let me know how much you put in, and we will match it there.

Actually, I am going to go ahead and say that any reputable charity you donate to for this disaster relief will be match as described to that charity.

Sure let's help all that we can....in some other way. It's a horrific natural disaster of a magnitude I will probably never see in the balance of my lifetime. Having said that.....

It's only been 24 hours or so and already the US is being criticized for what....not waving a magic wand that doesn't exist ? Being stingy ? Insensitive ?

Typical......charities are all pleading here on TV in Canada for cash only........so they can pay for overpriced stuff locally I imagine among other things.....and if anyone complains, I can google and tell you what the UN and other ngo's pay to landlords in A-stan and other places for aid.....it's embarrassing.....or what charities pay in admin and other "expenses".....I agree with other's here about charities.

Sri Lankan's refusing Israeli help because the 150 person specialized unit was "too military" (maybe they didn't bring cash.....heh.....or being too Jewish is more like it....and as an athiest I am appalled and perplexed) but apparently air force aircraft or personel from other countries (Canada included) are OK ? Yeah......politics......

There are still going to be idiots running the show. But we have to help in anyway way we can. It is our responsibility as humans.

There are a large number of organizations already posted in this thread which are quite honorable and will make sure the funds get to where they are needed. All we have to do is pick one and click. We have the power to save lives right now, something we don't often have. Let's not shirk that power.

I just found out that my wifes cousin was on the beach in Phuket when the wave came. He and his girlfriend were in their swimming suits having a day at the beach when they noticed that the water was 'disappearing'. He said he SAW the wave coming from way out, he grabbed his girfriend and they ran. They managed to get aboard a truck that was heading uphill, and they rode the truck to safety. He witnessed the waves hitting the beach from the truck, and said the water was only part of the issue. There was also a great deal of broken glass being washed around, so people were trying to dodge that as well. They're now holed up in the home of German couple with 90 other people.

He has no shoes, no shirt, and a very little money, but he's safe and alive.

WOW! The first $500 match donation! Thank you SO MUCH.

That $500 just brought the days total to $13,475! The deal was a match of anything up to $500 and you called that bet, GOOD FOR YOU! Because we ALL win.

I'm with you Nigel - if what you say is correct, then hats off to you Gentry, if only i could do likewise.

I have just donated £100 GBS via Unicef and just hope it goes to where they say... the children. If you can match it gentry then God bless you.

We have a beautiful 21 month old little girl, and the story of the Dutch guy who had his 9 month old daughter swept away out of his arms is heart wrenching.

Gentry, I'm very interested in your generous offer. These are particularly charities are charities to which I do not usually contribute. It's hard to ignore a 7x multiplier, so I'm really interested.

I do have some reservations about this however as there has been past question of the validity of some of your more elaborate claims.

Respectfully, I just want to be careful that I'm not defrauded. If the 6 generous but anonymous clients did not really agree to match dollar for dollar donated by a bunch of internet board contributors whom they do not know , with whom they have no relationship and from whom they have no ability to confirm the donations it would be distressing. If this is not on the level it would indeed be fraud.

Gentry, how will we know that you actually are contributing these many thousands of dollars to various charities? It's interesting to me as it seems its one of those things that can never be proven just like tail numbers, buying a Bentley, a Rolls, huge building deals and opening a private bank.

Honestly, I've never heard of even big corporations matching with no limit. With >10,000 F-Chatters you potential exposure is 10,000 X $500 X 7 = $35 million.

So, in summary, I'm interested in this but I don't want to be fooled. I'm not accusing, just asking.

Not to toss in my $.02.

The charities are worthy, even if the G man is tossing a line at us.

He can contact Doctors without border, and the REd Cross, among others, and set up a matching funds account.

Did a little research last night and the "Stunt" they pulled on 9-11 was the american red cross under the presidency of Libby Dole (ol Bob's wife) the link i posted was to the International Red Cross....

But from my perspective it is the "boots on the ground" that count and every disaster i have had to cover Every single one, from plane crash to Hurricane to someone's home burning down on christmas, the Red Cross is there.
