I'll just second that. Goodwood has to be at the top of the list. On a Midwest/regional basis I'd like to add a couple Chicago based events: - Belle macchine d'Italia (sp?) - Oakstreet
Brian, yes, this year I combined them because they're all together. However, in the future they would be seperate and I would rank the FCA meet based on where they are. Probably which track they're using.
Hey William, here's a cut-n-paste of the latest info: ---------------------------------------------- The French Quarter Classic 5, will take place from November 11th to 14th, 2004. Spots are very limited. We will be accepting approximately 100 cars. Invitations will be sent out in the next two months to invite first those participants of previous years. Those people will have a tentative reservation, and spots will be held for them for a certain timeframe. After that timeframe the reservations will expire, those spots will free up, and new invitations will be sent out. Although this is an invitational only event, with past participants being invited first, there will be many spots availble for additional guests. These spots will be created by increasing the event's size by 20%, and the fact that not everyone from years plast will be able to attend. For those new potiental guests we will be taking applications which will be available online. at www.ferrarifrenchquarterclassic.com. You can download and fill out those applications. The applications will be available online by Jan. 15th. Applications will be reviewed and acceptances will go out well in advance of the event. The acceptance commitee will use some guedelines for new guests. The guidelines are non-exclusive, and just some of the factors used for acceptance of application. The factors are weighted in this order: 1) the date the application is sent in (the earlier the better); 2) the existance or non-existance of a referal from past guest; 3) the strength of any referal; 4) person's driving/participation experience in similar driving/track/concorso events; 5) Model of car(s), and history; If you are interested in recieving an application please let us know -------------------------------------------- Dave
Thank all of you for the kind words on the event. As for what is the "best" thats up to how you define it. Best may be biggest, the place to see the most valuable/historic cars, or the best overall experience as a spectator or as a participant. For me, what I considers "best" or my perception of what is the best (as I've not attended everything I want to attend) is first defined as whether I'm going as a spectator or participant. For the spectator, "best" may be the place where I can view and see the most numbers/ variety of cars. As a spectator I want to see the most cars/the bestcars /the most rare cars/most historic cars/ the biggest race, the best race. As a participant the pure numbers matter less and the "experience" matters more. The experience is not only viewing, its doing. With this in mind, the New Orleans event was modeled after the GTO reunion (with imput from one such participant of several). From what I've studied that's what I consider one the top Ferrari participating events. Like the GTO reunion, the New Olreans event is more of a boutique, high end, "experience" for participants. The event is not profit driven, so that allows the moneys collected to be pumped into the extravagence of the event and charity (which is I believe a tad different that other events) The only downside is that the boutique nature of what we are doing limits the number of participants. There are some obvious differences with the GTO reunion which are part circumstansial part intentional. Obviously with the circumstance of different models we are allowed to intentionally put emphasis on the enthusiasts as well as the models of the marque. Yes, not all of the cars are worth in excess of 7 million bucks, but there are some incredible enthusiasts, some incredibly interesting people, who do not happen to own these cars (at least they do not presently own them - I certainly hope I'm one of these!!!). For those of you who have posted wishing to attend, please look over the guidelines for acceptance and foward us an application (available online), when they become available online (which is Jan. 15th). Metion Ferrarichat on the application as well so it comes to my attention. Its not just the cars the acceptance board is looking for, its the enthusiasts as well. That dovetails what I consider what makes an event the best. One of my favourite things about going to one of these events is meeting and sharing with people this crazy passion. Makes you feel sort of normal.
ROTFLMAO! John, your event is one of the most fun that I have ever been to and can't recommend it enough. One question -- It is limited to Ferraris? The reason that I ask is that Luigi Ballatori would love to bring his Blue Devil Lambo. Luigi is the President of the Lambo Club of Texas, and we have been doing a lot of joint events with the local FCA club. To say that Luigi's car draws attention is putting it mildly. Here is his web page http://www.lamborghiniclubtexas.com/ Dale
So, compiling the votes so far... and adding links to the events... here's The Top 10 Ferrari Events in the US: 1) Once-a-decade FCA Annual combined with Monterey Weekend (FCA 2004) 2) Ferrari French Quarter Concorso (Oct/Nov, New Orleans) 3) FCA Annual Meet (time varies, rotates around country) 4) Cavallino (Jan, Palm Beach, FL) 4) Le Bella Macchine d'Italia (Jun, Eastern PA) 6) Monterey (CA) Weekend (Aug including Concorso Italiano, Monterey Historics, Pebble Beach Concours, and more) 7) USGP F1 (Indy) 7) Canadian GP F1 (Montreal) 8) Regional FCA Events that include track time... 8) FCA at Lime Rock (when? link?) 8) FCA at Watkins Glen (when? link?) 9) Regional FCA Events that lack track time... 9) FCA South Central Meet (Apr/May, San Antonio, TX) 9) Chicago event called Belle macchine d'Italia? 10) ... what else??? ...
And similarly, compiling the votes so far... and adding links to the events... here's The Top 10 Ferrari Events in the World: 1. Spa Ferrari Days (Apr/May, Belgium) 2. Mille Miglia (May, Italy) not all ferraris there, but the ferraris there are really great 2. Tutte le Ferrari a ... (Italy) 2. Goodwood Festival of Speed (Jun, England) 2. Goodwood Revival (Sep, England) 6. Nurburg Ferrari Days (Germany) 6. Italia Days Zandvoort (Holland) 8. AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix with SHC (Nürburgring , GERMANY) 8. 250GTO anniversary 10. Tour de France (a bike race?? ) I have a feeling there's a number of events that belong in that list, but haven't been nominated yet. And does anyone have links for some of those on the list??
-Tour de France -Ferrari Days @ Spa,Nurburg,Magny Cours .... -Cavallino Classic -Pebble Beach -Mille Miglias -Targa Florio Revival -Goodwood -Le Mans Classic The GTO anniversary is once every 5 years only..
Based on Vince's post, I thought that was "tutti le Ferrari (italian challenge final)", which is tied for #2 in the WW list. Are those two different events? Anyone have a link for that? (Based on the two nominations, I'm not even sure how to spell it properly.)
The TDF is really an event to see ! I would love to do it one day or just follow them the whole way ,not just the first day.. But Seing a Daytona Competizione blasting down some french country roads followed by an RSR and another Daytona comp is something i will always remember...
#9 is now called "Automobili Italiane" to distinguish it from #4. Also on the World list, I would probably put Goodwood Revival ahead of Goodwood Festival of Speed.
http://www.limerock.com/LRP-Events/ferrari.html This is the Lime Rock event July 8-10. There is also a local FCA event at the end of July i believe.
No more votes? These are it... the top events in the US... no other nominations? Based on that, here's The Top 10 Ferrari Events in the US: 1) Once-a-decade FCA Annual combined with Monterey Weekend (FCA 2004) 2) Ferrari French Quarter Classic (Oct/Nov, New Orleans) 3) FCA Annual Meet (time varies, rotates around country) 4) Cavallino (Jan, Palm Beach, FL) 4) Le Bella Macchine d'Italia (Jun, Eastern PA) 6) Monterey (CA) Weekend (Aug including Concorso Italiano, Monterey Historics, Pebble Beach Concours, and more) 7) USGP F1 (Indy) 7) Canadian GP F1 (Montreal) 8) Regional FCA Events that include track time... 8) Lime Rock Park Ferrari Racing Days (July, CT) 8) FCA at Watkins Glen (when? link?) 9) Regional FCA Events that lack track time... 9) Fiesta Ferrari / FCA South Central Meet (Apr/May, San Antonio, TX) 9) Automobili Italiane (July, Chicago/Itasca) 10) ... what else??? ... I think I can get my Stradale to all of those in the next 18 months, except the two that are too close to July 4th (Lime Rock and Automobili Italiane)... those will be tough. Any others that should be on my list??
C'mon, there just has to be more events out there worthy of nomination... right? What else?? If not, here's The Top 10 Ferrari Events in the World: 1. Spa Ferrari Days (Apr/May, Belgium) 2. Mille Miglia (May, Italy) not all ferraris there, but the ferraris there are really great 2. Tutte le Ferrari al Mugello (Oct/Nov, Mugello, Italy) 2. Goodwood Revival (Sep, England) 5. Goodwood Festival of Speed (Jun, England) 6. Nurburg Ferrari Days (Germany) 6. Italia Days Zandvoort (Holland) 8. Magny Cours Ferrari Days (France) 8. Targa Florio Revival (Oct, Sicily, Italy) 8. LeMans Classic (France) 8. AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix with SHC (Nürburgring , GERMANY) 8. 250GTO anniversary Does anyone have links for some of those on the list??
I won't... Is the 250 GTO meet just for those owners? Is the 275 Tour just for those owners? Do you have website links for any of those? Spa Ferrari Days seems to be on everybody's list... but is it still deserving of the #1 spot? By "official Ferrari World Finale", do you mean the Ferrari Challenge Finals? There seems to be several Tutte le Ferrari events around Italy: Tutte le Ferrari al Mugello (Nov 2003, Nov 2000, in conjunction with Ferrari Challenge Finals and Historic Challenge) Tutte le Ferrari in Pista Imola (Nov 1998, in conjunction with Ferrari World Finale?) Tutte le Ferrari a Monza (April 2003?, Nov 2002 in conjunction with Ferrari Challenge Finals, Oct 2001) Tutte le Ferrari a Vallelunga Tutte le Ferrari in Sicilia (Nov 1998) Tutte le Ferrari dal 1950 ad oggi Tutte le Ferrari 2+2 in Mostra Tutte le Ferrari 2+2 in Esposizione Is it one event that is moving around from year to year? If so, does it always coincide with the Ferrari Challenge Finals and Historic Challenge? If not, which events go with what races? and which events are best? do they all belong on the list? Or is an event with similar name held in each area of Italy; and then one of them each year is typically paired with the Ferrari Challenge finals? And is it just that one that belongs on the world top 10 list? Or are certain ones always good? Or all of them? Thanks!
No no, you should come to Narlins with the race car - it would be your only chance to run it on the street through the French Quarter with thousands of people cheering you on, and the police yelling at you... to do more burnouts!!
http://www.dacorsa.net/1880.0.html + s/n 9395 275 GTB/4 Claudio Scalise / Gustavo Pecoroff ARG/ARG A fabulous event as usual. Helmut
Are Mike and Helmut the only ones with events to add? Are those lists complete? Are there no other events for a Ferraristi to be sure to hit in his lifetime??
The May 2004 issue of MotorTrend has their list of 49 Cool Car Things to do Before You Die. Here's the ones that are Ferrari-related and thus candidates for our top 10 lists: Indy GP Ferrari Factory Tour (Maranello, Italy) Monaco GP Ristorante Cavallino (Modena, Italy) Autobooks (Burbank, CA) Monterey Weekend 24 Hours of Le Mans (France) Goodwood Festival of Speed (near London, England) Laps on Nurburgring (Germany) Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction (Scottsdale, AZ) Drive a Formula One Car (Belleville, Ontario, Canada) Galleria Ferrari (Maranello, Italy) Cars of the Stars Museum (Cumbria, England; Magnum's 308) Amelia Island Concours D'Elegance (Amelia Island, FL) Petersen Automotive Museum (L.A., CA; petersen.org) National Motor Museum at Beaulieu (Hampshire, England; beaulieu.co.uk) Here's a few that may not be Ferrari related, but would seem to fit some of the tastes here: Jim Hall Karting School (jhrkartracing.com) Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving (bondurant.com) National Automotive Museum (Reno, NV; automuseum.org) Blackhawk Museum (blackhawkauto.org) Andretti Winery (Yountville, CA; in Napa; andrettiwinery.com) Still taking nominations for either of the Top 10 Lists...
