My wife got me Concorso tickets and a hotel for Father's Day. I was very excited as this will be the first year after the birth of my boy that I will be attending. But last minute work craziness had me on the verge of canceling. I even canceled my hotel room. But my wife, bless her, urged me to go have some fun. So at 2:30AM, I leave my house. And through fog and heavy eyes and 2 wrong turns due to construction and just plain pilot error, I made it to the Concorso and parked my car at 7:45AM! The "detours" had cost me a half hour so I was pretty proud of that time. Even though I wasn't trying to hurry.

My Dino has a slow coolant leak that we haven't been able to track down so I carried some coolant and a quart of oil. After enjoying the show and knowing I needed to get back home, left before the end of the show. I had to put in a little less than a pint of coolant and the oil was fine. While I was getting ready to leave, a nice German gentleman came by to jot down info on my car. He said it was for his friend Matthias. And I told him I know of Matthias through Fchat.

Leaving Concorso was a traffic nightmare. While sitting in it, I was trying to decide which way to take to go home. I haven't driven the coast in a long time and it's always enjoyable. But a couple of years ago, I stumbled across a road on the internet. And have been wanting to try it. So I decided to go for the unknown.

It was the BEST road I've driven in a long while. And perfectly made for the Dino. I decided I was going to just chill and enjoy the scenery. I could really see why California is called the Golden State. But try as I might to chill and enjoy, I started getting into a rhythm and found myself pushing and pushing until I was pretty much going flat out in some sections. I saw 1 patrol car early on, maybe 15-20 minutes into the drive. And that was it. As for other cars, I felt I had the world to myself and this was my personal playground. Seriously, not a sole for miles!!! Just me, my Dino and a beautiful serpentine road.

I said earlier that this road was made for the Dino. It's got some tight switchbacks that a light sportscar like the Dino just laps up. I wouldn't want to do this road in a big, heavy car. And it has some open sections where I had the Dino flat out in 5th gear. I was told that the road is right on the San Andrea fault!!! "They're always repairing that road".

Anyways, this road added an extra hour to my drive home. It was one of the best hours of my life. So what is this road?

Sorry for such a long post. But it was a perfect day for me. The car ran flawlessly. The weather was beautiful. The road, magical. The Concorso, fantastic. And my wife had dinner for me when I got home! Doesn't get much better when playing hookey for a day!

Highway 25 is the best road for serious drivers. I almost died on that road 20 years ago. Since then, I slowed down a bit.

enjoyed 25 in my spider any number of times heading south. My father and I had an office in Hollister and got to know this gem...

good to hear other people enjoying it. a bit out of the way for trying to get back home south but well worth the detour.

By any chance did this man have a small notepad that he wrote your car info into? Such a person asked me for my Euro Dino's SN and he wrote it on a small note pad that already had same kind of info for other cars on it. Could Matthias have sent `spies' to Concorso?

    I welcome the company. :)

I did a similar scenario a few years ago and had an Alfa Montreal for a playmate. Ah, the memories.

Did he take photos? Watch out Ron, your Dino is going on e-bay...

Must be the guy from Bali, or one of his friends, you know, the ones that have a Dino for sale for $50K in:

    -fill in the blank-

Now we are going to see some real good photo settings, no tractors or compressors in the background ;)

    Regards, Alberto

Scott, that looks like great fun. I miss the wonderful California backroads...
What was the little chirp in the first video, tires against the bodywork?
It was a pretty big dip.

    Regards, Alberto
