A couple of friends of mine asked me why the 360 door handles and buttons and ashtray were a little "sticky". It started to get on my nerves so I decided to redo the plastic a/c buttons and then the ashtray mirror controls and finally the door handles.

I used easy-off and goof-off discussed in other posts. I disassembled the door handles. It's not too tough if you are a DIY type.

Hint: the leather arm rest behind the door handle pulls up and gives access to everything. The passenger side door panel needs to come off. Remove the metal painted trim holding the speaker first. There is a screw behind the upper hand grip mount.

A good amount of rubbing with the easy-off and the green pads. I painted most of the parts using using Rustoleum industrial flat black. I used plasti-dip spray on the heater/ac knobs. I am really happy with the results. I was wondering if anyone has used a not too shiny clear coat to protect a flat black finish.

    Regards,

    Stew

good job. the sticky problem seems to be synonymous with humid climates, so if you're ever passing through Singapore let me know and I'll put you to work on my "sticky bits" :D .. oh hang on I didn't mean that the way it sounded  .. i mean my car of course

Mine are still in great shape, but how did you protect or redo the arrow and letters on the mirror controls when you prepped and painted the black?

When I did mine I didn't protect them... the graphics just stay put. I wouldn't scrub really hard though!
The only think I lost was on my door locks, the printed white "lock" and a arrow thing came off. Now mine are just all-black. No big deal.

    OK,
    This is from memory

There are 4 small phillips screws and some wiring plugs underneath that mirror control panel. The easist way (for me) was to take the time to lift up the whole center console enough to get your hands under it. My 360 is a 3 pedal. This is what I did.
    1. Take out the ashtray and unplug the cigarette lighter.
2 In the back of the center console there is a piece of leather glued down with a larger phillips screw under it, take it out.
    3. I took off the shifter knob and shifter gate.
    4. Unscrew the panel from underneath, lift it up and carefully remove the plugs for the various electrical controls.
    5. The switches come apart from the plastic cover but go slow and be careful !

    I don't know about the F1 controls.

    Good luck !

    Regards,

    Stew

This is how it looked finished.
Really suits the interior and never having to worry about any paint/scratches etc is a bonus.

To paint them or refinish by other means the parts have to be removed..

Is it true that the "melting" is due to cleaning materials owners use on their interiors?

Does anyone have the issue who has just used plain old damp cloth for the life of the car (mine is 09 years old without a sign of stickiness but I might just be lucky).

Lucky, I believe the UV sunlight has alot to do with it. Adding chemical cleaners just adds to the problem....

    The good news is:

Once the rubber type coating is replaced by paint, all of the maintenance becomes easy !

Some have opted for just buying new parts. The reason I refinished the parts myself was because the new parts will eventually become sticky.

    Regards,

    Stew

p.s. I know it's after the fact but, 285Ferrari, PM me with any interior paint suggestions if you have time. Ive been experimenting with some of the newer flat and semi gloss exterior automotive paints.
