"World-renowned tuner and hot rod king Boyd Coddington died at 6:20 am this morning. The cause of death is still unknown. Coddington, founder of Boyds Wheels and designer of prize-winning custom cars, had recently been hospitalized twice for an undisclosed medical condition. Although he was though to be in recovery, rumors of his untimely death began circulating today throughout the forums. A spokesperson for Boyd Coddington's corporation has confirmed to Jalopnik that those rumors are true. The company will be releasing a statement later today."

Met this guy once, was kinda pompus. But did alot to help the hot rod industry. And we can thank Boyd for Chip Foose. RIP.

I have to respect his creative vision, eye for quality and getting the right people working for him.. even if I didn't think much of him on a personal level.

    He'll definitely be missed!

Always sad when someone dies although the TV show "American Hot Rod" didn't do him or the reputation of his work any favors in my opinion.

    RIP

My guess is stress and holding grudges ultimately did him in.

Maybe now his employees can actually get time off and see their families.

    No kidding!

If there was one shred of reality in the show he was a terrible guy to work for.

He had a lot of creative energy and some of his cars were really cool, but transforming his hobby into a business may have affected his demeanor, and I wish he would have been more active in actually building the cars than barking at employees. Also, I have to say that the quality of construction on the cars looked really questionable regardless of the fancy paint and interior.

I would have been pissed if my car was one of the ones done on the show. Multiple times they appeared to half-ass steps to "meet" a deadline.

I still remember when he treated his original painter/body guy like ****. I knew it was only time before he quit.
