uhhh, yes it is analogous to the Big Macca in many ways and furthermore, the Veyron is DECADES ahead of other cars in terms of technology used, just like the Macca was when it came out! Downplaying it like Peter doesn't say much--"W16 with quad turbos etc." because getting that engine to work efficiently is the actual achievement.

BTW, this sort of opinion-mongering will get nowhere. The point is, some of you think of the Veyron a certain way, and others do differently. For example, I think Ralph Lauren's collection except for the McLaren F1 LM is a complete pile of SHIET! And, what I say stays said...LOL..

so again, let's refocus and not continue with ADD behavior. The point of debate was and always was the technical merits of the Veyron. You stated that anybody could've done a 1000hp and not have to go with a W16 quad turbo. You also said plenty of other cars can do what the veyron has achieved performance and statistics wise. Finally you alluded that you do not get what you paid for with the Veyron. So up to this point, none of your claims have been backed by sound evidence. I fail to see how it's even a debate if you are just throwing out opinions without experience and facts. Again.. you don't have to like the car and we can all frankly care less. But to dismiss the technical merits of a Veyron is ignorance but of course that is bliss for some. BTW, when did stability even come into the discussion?

This is all supposed to be friendly debate, if you would like to make a serious enough remark that could make all of us drop in our tracks and begin worshipping the Veyron, be my guest, but until then I don't see why this friendly banter is unwanted.

I just have never understood the concept of the Veyron, and all the praise that I've heard even in this debate has not even shown me a glimpse of why I should see it as an automotive icon.

Everyone compares the Bugatti to the McLaren, and for what it's worth, I think that's lunacracy. The McLaren held titles for over a decade after it's inception. It raced even after it ended production with great success. Then Bugatti comes along does an "in your face" by making the fastest car in the world, just to be replaced within a few weeks, and no one really noticing. The Bugatti is a street car, and as such it will never, ever use the capabilities it has for much good.

Almost every other successful company who is in that area of 500K + dollar super cars has. Be it Ferrari who races still today, to Lamborghini, who still hasn't factory supported any racing, but they still race to this day in numerous events. They all still have racing history, and with that they build. Bugatti as we know today is not the Bugatti of the past, just merely a continuation of what I consider beating a dead horse.

Bugatti's were beautiful. The Veyron and EB110 are not, or at least not in the way of the old ones. The Bugatti's were fast. The two cars do have this quality. The Bugatti's though, were raced, and I believe that to be the big difference. The old ones had purpose, and if the sole purpose of the Veyron is to make it easy for someone who has nearly no experience to have the ability to go 200mph+ without "feeling" it is only making for more stories like that of "Graveyard of Supercar Dreams."

Sure Koenigsegg doesn't have any racing history. Neither does SSC. In turn, the new Bugatti, which merely shares the same insignia of the old has no racing history behind it either. Sure you can argue about VW involvement, with it's numerous titles throughout the marques of Porsche, Audi, etc. but in and of itself it is a fairly new company that has no roots where it is now.

Look at Saleen, look at Ferrari, look at Lamborghini, Porsche, Astons and close behind them you will find a team racing with their colors. I don't see that happening with Bugatti, and I can't see how, as you blatently point out, people can read an article, and assume that the Bugatti is the best thing out there.

So go ahead, and please explain to me why I should take your word over that of an article.

You have a friend with his opinion, and you have your opinion, and I have my opinion. So we either accept another person's point of view and adopt it as our own, or try to force it upon eachother. I don't really care if you like my ideas, or if you think everything I say is garbage. I just think that those who would like to hear what I want to say have their fill.

I'm young, but not stupid. Unless you have some objection to something I've said, then I think I'm done here.

It was mentioned by another member, I don't have even a second to check who, but that doesn't matter. I don't think that any of us can do anything other than put out opinions, unless you have had enough seat time in your friends to give us an overview.

I find the formula of the Veyron is much like that of an old muscle car, in that it weighs in like a boat anchor, but has enough horsepower to move it around. I'd like to see it go around a track.

I understand that you don't care what I think, and in which case, why continue?

Now I'm done with this thread.

drove it

I drove a Veyron this past summer -- unbelievable. I arranged for my friend (who just bought the black Enzo from Wynn Ferrari) to drive it after me -- he bought the Veyron on the spot. Like me, he was totally blown away. It's a car you can drive around town like an Audi, but all hell breaks loose when you punch the accelerator.

Thanks for sharing a tangible experience. How to add more value when opinion mongering - I think the sequence goes something like this:

Get subscription to R&T, obtain driver's license, drive a Civic, drive a M5, drive a 360, drive a CS . . . drive a G [sorry, couldn't help myself ], . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . drive/own a Veyron.

do you and your 'friend' ever come out on the drives or meets? It'd be great if he can bring the Veyron! (assuming he still has it..)...and when is he taking delivery of the Black Enzo? I saw it at the Wynn around New Year's...

I have driven all of the cars mentioned in this thread.
I can honestly give the greatest feedback on the cars if you guys would stop bickering, but I am pretty sure not ONE of you really cares what the cars are like at 3-5 mph.

Oh well, I will go share my story somewhere else then.........

PS-The Enzo is on its way to us. The Customer is forming his own opinion of the Bug right now.....

This video is pretty amazing. http://www.myvideo.de/watch/527033

A guy on an R1 following a Veyron in Germany and you can watch the Bugatti easily pull away from the bike. Pretty amazing for such a large car

That video was awesome! It shows the brutality of the Veyron--destroying an R1 at full pelt is not easy. Also, this vid was posted on 6speed and most comments were similar to this: "the CGT sounds great... etc.".. hahaha...the CGT got destroyed..but I was suprised it (CGT) kept up with the R1...the R1 is the king kahuna of street bikes I would think..

So, you work at SVAG?

If you can, let me know when you plan on taking the cars that are being traded for the Veyron out for their photo shoots. I'd be very interested in stopping by and seeing them all in daylight. PM me if you get any free time.

Thanks.

The Ford GT, Saleen S7, and the Enzo Ferrari are all here. Meaning I am already too late to go see them in the sunlight.

I'm planning on heading into the dealership sometime today though.

straightline.. the GXSR1000's are still king in liter bike class.. My R1 lacked torque and that's why both cars got the jump on it. but for all out straightline speed.. the New ZX14 kicks ass.

And the Enzo is sold...

Delivery on Monday night, sold today around 4.

By the way, my dreams were completely dashed today about the Saleen S7. I sat in the TT and it was far too small for me. My knees touched the steering wheel, I couldn't get in without contortionist like movements, and lastly the clutch/brake/gas were so close together I had to take off my sandals to get my feet to only touch one at a time.

I did rather like the feel of the Murcielago though, it was very roomy, and the seats were very comfortable. Thankfully no clutch which made the lack of knee room bearable.

Too bad the Enzo was already sold. I would have died for a seat in one of those. First time I've ever seen one in person, and I must admit it is quite a site to see.

As for the buyer of the Bugatti, he traded in his Ford GT which is said to have the best stereo system the salesman has ever seen in a car, the Diablo 6.0, the Saleen S7 N/A, which is much nicer, IMO than the one they have with tan interior, as well as of course the Enzo. Bugatti was stickered at 1.85 million, but the trade in values were supposedly very near 1.72 so that and a check got him the Veyron. This one, btw, is only being bought because he can't wait six more long months until the one he ordered is delivered. He is most likely keeping both. God what I'd do for that kind of money.

Black S7? There are two S7's that are at SVAG, both silver, one with black interior, the other with tan. If you have any pictures I would like to see, but I was just there not even half an hour ago.

I was the younger guy talking to Harry at his desk for about 10 minutes, if you saw me, but he left to go assist someone with a flat tire?

I was there around 3:30-4, must have just sold it before I walked in... was it a local buyer?

I didn't really pay attention to most of the cars there, just had a few questions, so not sure which S7 it was, it was inside near the enzo. And whoops... I blanked, it was silver not black (black interior?)
