I saw some of those cars run in thier day, but it just looks funny to see those heads sticking up out of those open wheel cars like that. I will do vintage at Mid-Ohio, but I don't believe I will enjoy the turnout that you did.

I came across some old friends (cars I mean) in the paddock: Alan Jones' championship winning car. I said to the mechanic, that the last time I was that close to the car, it was in 1980 in the paddock at Brands Hatch. He smiled and showed me Jones' signature on the rear wing and said: They finally met Alan at an event and that's when he signed his old car. Kewl stuff.

This car is a bit of a mistery to me: It is a Casey special, run in the CanAm group and the program says it has a Porsche engine, yet the car was covered with Ferrari's prancing horse logo. Anybody know the story?

Actually, it's the "Causey Special." Don't know the significance of the PH emblems, but it's been around a long time, raced B Sports in SCCA. Burt Levy writes about it often as Mike Kaske (the owner) let's Burt mooch rides all the time.

Nice to see my friends Joe Blacker (red #298 Lola T-298), Brian Stark (red/yellow Chevron B31/36), Don Braaten (red center seat Can-Am) and Larry Nevaiser (red Lola T-332 F5000) having fun!

    See everyone at Mid-Ohio.

    -Peter (big blue semi...)

    Andreas,

That Silk Cut Jaguar is my friend's car. Nice pic.

By the way, do you now agree that the BRIC is the finest weekend for car nuts in the midwest?? Are you "on board"???

    ;-)

Great photos, particularly the one of the black 430! ;)

I purchased "The Grand Prix Collection" DVDs yesterday at the Road America vendor section. Great stuff!

I forgot that they actually used to pass each other; and the drivers actually slid the rear end through corners instead of the "point and shoot" we see today in F1.

    Thanks Andreas!

    Andreas,
The car was built in Mexico, by the Causey Brothers. Fond of the Ferrari design, they found engineering drawings for the chassis, to lay out the box-frame of this car. The power is 2.0L 906 engine.

    PS - Great pics!!

Yes. I'd call it the Goodwood of the Midwest. :)

Mike, was that you in the black F430? Darn, I watched it getting parked. Had I known...

Thanks Bill, I found the full reference on the car's history here:

So in essence a P4 replica built when P4s were new.

Thanks for posting my pic. Lotus 51 number 65 on the way to false grid. Great event I have attended the past 4 years. Hot weekend though. Car was well prepared and won a reserve award at the racecar show on the elkhart streets friday night. Hot weather kept power down however but she is an old girl!!! Came home to put the new red top battery in the 360 and will probably head to limerock this weekend to spectate.

Your welcome. I got a kick out of the Lotus. Reminded me of the late Swiss artist Tinguely who had one like yours in his bedroom.

Jaguar XJ13 "re-creation". Has a Jag V12 in it, sounded NASTY (good nasty) when it drove in.
