I went to one a few times then they broke the hood release on my miata and I didn't go back. Then I went to a locally owned quick lube place and they broke the oil pressure sending unit. I started doing it myself after that or going to a good shop.
They are thieves. There is a lot of that in the automotive repair industry, and it isn't likely to end. Even at stealerships, they do this. I took my xterra to the local dealer for an oil change several weeks ago, and they charged me for 5 quarts of oil, when they only put in 4 (and yes I watched this!). If that isn't outright theft, then what is???
I always watch the work. My sister took her old blazer to a jiffy lube. When she came home we noticed that the oild filter said OIL EXPRESS on it...that was the place she took her car to 3 months earlier. I called up and called out the manager and he called me a liar. So, I showed up with the car....ever seen a manager studder. It was great! J
They will hire anyone at those places and usually only one person actually knows what they are doing.
I worked there when i was like 17 they pretty much force you to cheat people thats one of the many reasons i quit.
With my first car I went to get an oil change. They forgot to put the cap back on and my motor seized from oil starvation. I NEVER went back Antony
Got to stand there and watch the activity like a hawk, then the work gets done. My main problem was their pushing oil flushes, injector cleaners etc. Just say no. Done my own changes for a long while now.
Thanks for the video, Uro. While I don't place a lot of stock in sensationalized television, it is fairly hard to dispute the evidence that was unearthed in this piece. If legit, what a sad state of affairs.
For whatever reason whenever I hear the name I think "two necks" as in rednecks. My brother-in-law was going to work for them but they work on commission, and he doesn't need the money that badly. Too many garages work this way. And most of the mechanics I'm acquainted with have all the work they want, and they're very good. As a mechanic, I was just glad to be finished with whatever I was working on.
I had a quick lube when sold to a bunch of Persians they changed it to a Jiffy Lube. Most of these guys working on the cars are making minimum wage maybe slightly more, they also have high turn over as well, if you have ever had minimum wage employees you understand why they can only make minimum wage after awhile. That said they make mistakes, put the wrong filters on with the wrong thread pitch and it blows off down the road along with the oil, had one guy clear a car to go and he forgot to put the oil drain plug back in and it left a trail going down the road, I saw it and yelled but they did not hear me, soon the car came back knocking a bit till I told her to shut it off. Typically the only added sales they do are for air filters they make maybe $1 off one, then maybe trans oil changes as well, they don't get deeper into repairs than that. Yeah they over tighten drain plugs, strip them and other careless mistakes, doesn't happen all the time but still happens, would I take a car I like to one for an oil change no.
