This Monday and Tuesday I went to Chicago and besides the usual tourist attractions I also saw 5 Ferraris, 7 Bentleys, a Quattroporte, a Murci, 2 DB9s, a Viper, 2 SLRs, 2 Maybachs, and much more. I was very lucky to catch Bentley Gold Coast while they were rearranging the showroom, so all of the cars were parked outside (they don't allow pictures inside). I was also very lucky to have a valet at The Peninsula uncover cars for me inside the parking garage so that I could take pictures. Note that before Monday I had only seen 1 modern Ferrari, 1 Bentley, 1 Aston Martin, 1 Lamborghini, and 0 of anything else noteworthy... pretty pitiful.

We went into a store in the mall and I definitely had my camera with me, and 30 seconds after we walked back out I realized it wasn't in my pocket anymore. So we went back and searched and asked around there for an hour, even going back to the restaurant we had eaten even though I was positive I had it in the store. But, nothing. It had probably fallen out of my pocket and in less than a minute somebody had picked it up and kept it for himself!

So there goes 400 pictures, $200, and hours of walking around and freezing my hands off carrying the camera. And I'm not one of the 90% of Notre Dame students who can afford to lose $200 and not worry about it. I only bought the camera last September. Also I don't think I'll be lucky enough to catch the dealership rearranging and get a tour of the parking garage again. I don't know if I want to cry myself to sleep or just kill somebody. This blows :( Looks like my Fchat subscription will have to be put off again so that I can save money for a new camera.

I'm sorry, I understand that $200 bucks and invaluable pictures of cars is a HUGE deal.

But, if these are the 2 best days of your life I know what I would pick.

Thanks, "invaluable" is the word I was looking for.

Well... I wouldn't say 2 best overall but without a doubt the 2 best days car-related and probably on the top 10 list of good times spent with my friends.

I just hope the bad karma gets to whoever swiped it and they lose their car keys and go back to look for them, only to find that somebody else picked them up and stole their car.

Hey, bud - sorry about your mishap - you know what I do? Memorize details of what I'm seeing as I go about my moment - In fact, spent today doing that as I wandered through some old school casinos in Vegas - that, no one can take from me and I can take it to my grave.

Save your bitterness for your first wife. You'll need it when you chant "Die, *****, die!" Trust me, Karma will catch up. Now, if she would only die...

That really sucks! People in Chicago suck(well lots)! I had an experience similar happen to me....As I got off the "L" going to the Chicago auto show, I rammed my camera into the turn-stile(took note, didn't think much of it)...took hundreds of pics, when I got home they were all blurred/junk...I had broken the lens.

Sorry to hear what happened to you. I hope it gets returned somehow.

I was in NY City two weeks ago and dropped my Blackberry in the taxi as I got out of it.

Chased the cab on foot for four blocks before I ran out of 'puff' and gave up.

Only in NY!!! A very nice lady who got in the cab next, emailed me to say she found it and I could get it back from here.

    WOW!!!

Sorry to hear about this, I was looking forward to the pix. But like another post stated... save the bitterness for your divorce;)

Maybe you can get some good pix this summer when the weather isn't so lousy.

With all due respect, I wouldn't want a valet uncovering my car so someone could take pictures of it. That is an invasion of the privacy of the guests, and, as an occasional customer of the Peninsula, I find it somewhat distressing. I know you meant no harm, but it was inappropriate for the valet to do that. I am sorry about the loss of your camera.

Yeah I understand, shouldn't have done that. If it makes you feel any better it was only 1 car, they wouldn't let me touch any of them, and the other valets weren't as welcoming. But I couldn't help myself!

and thanks for all the Posts and PMs!

Save your money. I had Rossa for a year and didn't see any additonal value.

    Hey!

Anywho, I'd like to give my "Chicago Rocks!" speech. I live along the Blue Line L, which terminates at O'Hare. I'm going to the airport one day, and my phone slips out of my pocket. I call a couple of my friends from my vacation spot, and they all tell me that they got a call from the train motorman. Apparently, he found my phone during his walkthrough of the train, and called the first half of my phonebook, trying to find me. The phone was waiting at the lost and found when I got back to the airport.

Not everybody is a jerk. I still hold that Chicago is one of the few big cities where you can ask someone on the street for directions, and they'll actually tell you the right way to go, and do it with a smile. At least I try to do that.

    Midwestern sensibility and all that...

I know you weren't talking to me but just to clarify, I wasn't blaming Chicago people. Who knows if it was a Chicago resident or just another vacationer like me who took it.
