well it's boosted to 1 bar and has sports exhaust, so being under a ton you're getting close to the magical 200hp/1000kg ratio... but 160km/h in 11 secs is a bit optimistic, perhaps that's for the Maxi Works cars.

either way it's quick enuf, and there's a 400-500kg advantage (over the usual suspects) through the sweepers and twisties.

is there any more detailed news on exactly which cars will be competing? You said many older Ferrari's from oversea's are entering......do you know any more than that?
I remember last year an American guy brought his Carrera GT out for one of the Targa's (not sure which one - its on tape but I can't find it right now)....was it the Adelaide event? :)

can we the Ted-ster in it, he will insure the 130kmh limit will be broken, but then there is a gt3 that passed us at a speed that commercial jetliner would not do at takeoff

not sure how many entries wont be in for a few months yet. so far in the Thoroughbred section there's 8 Ferraris out of 29 entries. 125 entries into the competition section, only 1 Ferrari (GT4) and like 124 Porkers. :(

perhaps it's time to start the petition to see a certain Gallardo in there... hell, i'll navigate if i have to, i'm short enough that a helmet won't cause a fuss.
i don't think we count (apart from bolts), only here to provide a much-needed puzzle factor and be a welcome-wagen for non-adelaideans. go Team Velcro, represent.

I went to the briefing about 6 weeks ago, and the organisers said that there will likely be dozens of them from the US alone. They were scant on details, but gave the impression that there would be more Ferraris this year than Benzes last year - that means a lot of red cars!

When/if I get more details, I'll post them here.

Yes, there was a CGT in last year's event. I didn't see it but I'm told it was something. :)

so we went for a shakedown preview run of some of the Classic Adelaide territory in the cars mentioned earlier in this thread, goober's Renault 5 Turbo2, mhh's Gallardo, the Porsche GT3, and a Porsche 968 joined us briefly also.

i'll just paraphrase what i've already written... Fchat doesn't allow inline pics. :(

if you're unfamiliar with the R5T, think 1980's Group B rally cars...

other info about the car is available in earlier posts, suffice to say it's got the authentic rally-car feel to it (full race-harness, yeah baby), goes and sounds frickin awesome, and is so ugly that it's sexy. :D

we did around 300km before breakfast, so there weren't many chances for a decent photo shoot, but here's the rest of what i got: (hi-res stuff)

    sunday funday - R5T shakedown

i also shot some video, but it appears i was possessed by Michael J Fox and there's not much really worthwhile. despite the poor quality of the videomanship, i managed to get a good batch of still snapshots from it, low quality mind, around 640x480.

if you want to see more than i've already posted in this thread, then i'm playing with various formats at the moment and made a few different galleries, you can check them out here if you want and see what version you like:

so muchos grassyarse to the boys for letting me be ballast again.

oh and i will be at the rally as a spectator, not competing. I will enter a car next year. At the moment im too consumed with formula Vee fever but in another year the targa will be the next step, should be fun.

Thanks for the story Ash, sounds like you had a great morning :) All 3 cars look superb to me - the Gallardo speaks for itself, the black-on-black 996 is mean and the R5 is just a classic (I love the old Group B rally cars) :)

thanks dingo22, it took some hunting but finally got one, after some suspension werk (ash will testify to this) it will be fine as a nice but quick runabout. Ash should tell you at a p!ss stop the ferals in trailer park land came and pooled themselves when they saw the gallardo and GT3 and the poor r5 was left in a bog hole, as ash says the tr should have been on hand.

i just had a look and it was only 3 weeks ago that you started looking! so, offhandedly fancy a rare 80's car, find the only one on the continent, buy it and have it out storming through the adelaide hills among a Lambo and GT3 in under 3 weeks... that's pretty impressive really.

goober are you entering Targa West in Perth this year? I read that an R5T is entering and if there is only one in the country as Ash has said then it must be you.....or is there 2 of them?
BTW, mhh you should bring your Gallardo over for the event - providing you find a way to fit yourself and a helmet inside by then :D

Ash, thanks for the camera work and mighty editing job. Just watching it made me feel like I was there! ;)

Goober, the R5 was the star of the show IMO - mixing it with the big boys without so much as batting an eyelid. Just imagine the reaction inside the couple of cars we passed - "wow, check the Porsche and now a Lambo and.......what the hell was that!" :D

sorry, i meant road-registered street car. as far as i know there are two other werks team cars. one was owned by Doug Briese who was killed in an accident in the East Coast Targa last year in a GT3. :(

    http://www.classicadelaide.com.au/ca/results/results03/showcomp.asp?Compref=616

there may be another 1 or 2, but i haven't uncovered any such information.

mhh, don't forget to talk to Lambo-Oz about that idea you had... ;)
