THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!! I built a Tamiya Countach kit back in my high school days and I converted it into a Targa. It was even motorized! I gave it away unfortunately.

That Lambo has some history. It was converted for the original owner (Halstead ?) who was well over 6ft tall & couldn't fit. It is the only Countach to go racing (at the time anyway). The owner went on to build the Giacottolo (sp?) which was that weird Alfa with the big V8 in it.

wow, really?!!? i love these backstories :)

the Giocattolo is the only aussie/bogan car i've ever worshipped. i was really sad when that dude trashed (and died in :( ) his a few years back.

it's about the only reason i want to buy a FWD alfa! :D

Backstories? That's what happens when you go "back" a while ;)
Car was originally black when it raced and was later painted white. It raced in sports sedans (I think) and was way outclassed. Rather pointless; but it got a lot of publicity at the time.
The Giacattolo had some talent involved in it. I think the engineer was ex- Formula 1. Like all Aussie supercar efforts, it ran out of money and a dozen or so cars were built. I raced against them in Targa Tasmania a few times and they were fast in a straight line; but handled poorly and ran out of brakes. There are a couple of examples that have been highly modified from the original concept. A lot of car for the money and you won't see one on every street corner.

I stopped worshiping it when they decided not go with twin turbo Alfa V6.
Couldn't give a damn about the H v8 it now comes with.

If you want to build something exotic, please go all the way.

damn that F40 is ghetto. If anything, it needs some wheel spacers big time.

I can't get over the car hire sticker on the back . . .Are they for real in hiring that out to people?!?

that would be a diabolical car in the wet !!! There was one for sale here on the Gold Coast some months back and I almost considered getting it or the Porch cabaret it was next to, but I came to my senses and walked down a few doors to the Ferrari shop where all commonsense went out the window :D

The Kaplans have been doing Targa for some time, use to race with the wife didn't he ?

What number can we look out for you in the TT AHG ?

I'll bet 360C is getting itchy feet again :)

We are in the same Category 1982-1990 Early Modern, but in a different class; 0-2500cc Standard or 7A as it is called. Our car number is 707, which will hopefully inspire some low flying!

Nah, as much as I loved the driving, the wife still fires up at the mere mention of Targa. Unfortunately the guy who built the race car was stupid enough to tell her how much it cost. Ten years later she is STILL going off about it. You could do half a dozen years of track days in the 360 Michelotto for what I spent on Targa in my last two events. I doubt that I could better my 13th outright, so why bother.

    I know how you feel.
That innocent looking BMW 325i cost me a six figure sum to build from scratch. Started with a shell, bare metal respray, roll cage, 4 pot AP racing brakes with a set of rotors specially engineered, coil over adjustable suspension, all new parts or reconditioned, engine rebuilt etc. etc. You only do that once in your life!
