Does anybody know the Co. that rebuilds the rear calipers on the 308? I think they are in Wa. or somewhere out West. They do a full service and powder-coat it after it's all set. I had there Web site but it's in a other laptop that's not cor-operating. Thanks
Hey Chris If you dont need anything for a few months, I might have a replacement solution that we are working on which will actually give you real functioning rear emergency brake and a 4 pot caliper for the rear, with oversized rotors to match the fronts. Richard
Hi Richard, Why are you doing this to me?? Lol! It sounds so tempting. Well, she is going to be out of commission for a "few" months still. Let me know. I can always swing by the East when i'm on Marco Island and see what's happening. Chris
Chris, Do it yourself! Here's the procedure! http://www.birdmanferrari.com/service/caliperrebuild/index.html Birdman
I take it the parking-brake mechanism for 308s is pretty weak in design? Mine is inoperative (cooked grease, old-age, heat, the usual suspects). A rebuild is a waste of time?
Chris, I beleive I know the place to which you refer. I just had mine done and they offer a choice of colors. Since I have a 308 ,with stock wheels I had them leave mine bare. The work is excellant and they include instructions on the proper method of adj. WWW.goldlinebrakes.com They are located in Seattle and the service was great band timely. I must have about 100mi on them by now and the handbrake works well. Yes you can re-build them yourself but if you are in a hurry like I am, (we only have a month on summer in the UP) I highly reccomend them. The cost was about $170/caliper. lostbowl PS they request you send your new pads with the caliper, Give me the luxeries of life and I will willingly do without the necesseties. Frank L Wright
I've used Gold Line Brakes in WA - Ask for John the owner - 877-347-2225 web site www.goldlinebrakes.com they can finish red or black - - - Wayne
just finished doing mine. i don't see why you don't do the rebuild yourself. the hard part is installing and adjusting them which you have to do even if you send them out. the rebuild process is very simple and with the available info here you can't go wrong. i did both for under $I00.
Me too, one side, but 'O' rings for left side rear were close to $200. Incidentally, someone chided me about experiencing leaks after cracking the calipers open. I've had no such problems, torqued halves together without the special tool or replacing bolts. Did the one-man bleed using Phoenix suction tool (a snap 10 minute 1 shot job). Hand brake is now usable. Not good but usable to eliminate 'rollback' starts at inclined stops. Birdman's and Pelican Parts instructions were enormously helpful.
Richard, I have custom calipers/rotors/master cylinder (larger on all counts) on my 77 GTB, so therefore have foregone my parking brake. Would love to know more about your solution. Seems like the only viable one is to hang a second smaller caliper on the front of the upright. It would involve drilling mount holes in the front upright bosses and re-routing the pull cable... Let us know!! PM me! Greg
Sorry for the spam. Looks like you guys need a proper rebuild for your rears. We've rebuilt 100's of these calipers. Powder and paint is not an option unless you want to de-value your car. To do proper powder over 30 holes and surfaces need to be sealed and plugged and... frankly, there's no such thing as proper powder for the ATE integrated handbrake calipers. They need to be replated using zinc. We've gone to great lengths to get the right finish. The ATE factory used yellow zinc. We've had a pair of OEM units test to verify the finish. The fasteners are NLA (M7 hardware is unobtainium) so the original hardware again needs to be black zinc plated. The result is a factory fresh caliper that has been torn down to bare metal and restored. We do these for Porsche 914, 914-6, 914-6/GT (same as yours with the bleeder on the other end), Alfa and Ferrari's. We've "never" had a dissatisfied customer. We recently restored the calipers on two of the 41 factory GT's made and the very first 914-6 off the factory assembly line. Pricing is "fair". We don't gouge you because there's a prancing horse on the hood. We love these cars and we love these oddball calipers. That's why we do this. http://www.pmbperformance.com/catalog/item/4741552/4786404.htm Here's a few pictures of mine (off my 914-6/GT). Note the SS pistons. We do fronts as well. Hope that helps. Their work sucks. The dealer I was at had a parts manager that used them and we had over a 100% failure rate of their work. In other words we had to have every one sent back to be repaired properly, some more than once. Either that or we just fixed their work in house.
Looks like PMB really knows what they're doing with these (slightly odd) 308 rear calipers. Think I might send my rears to them for a restoration. One question to PMB, are the 308 rear calipers indeed the same as 914? Same size pistons, caliper spacer, etc?? Thanks.
