Here is the old one out of my '78 308 GTS. It doesn't look quite the same but maybe you can reference off of this. P/N on the box 109671

    Upper flange diameter 2.2"
    Lower flange/plunger diameter 1.36"
Distance from the bottom of the upper flange to the bottom of the lower flange/plunger 1.27"
Overall height of assembly from the top of the brass cage to the bottom of the lower flange/plunger 2.38"

Well we know it isn't 4222283 since there weren't a whole lot of dino parts at sodacoms.

It sure doesn't look like the one that just came out of my car.

I would guess that it is an aftermarket replacement for the 308 unit Spasso has shown. The Ferrari units had a plastic bypass shutoff but there is no reason not to have brass. Many cars use them. The plastic one's melt off when the coolant temp goes through the roof so there would be one less part to change when you overheat the car (don't do that at home kids).

Daniel, It's an aftermarket replacement for a 328. David gave me one to try out but it is still setting on my toolbox.

    Tom -

Thanks for the update! I guess they've been sitting around Dave's inventory too. Oh well, maybe I'll just chuck 'em in the garbage or use them as paperweights.

Anyone want one (free!) to test and report back with the results?

I should hope no one's temp goes high enough to melt this type of plactic. I estimate at well over 300+ F before it would melt. I would most definitely be worried about the rest of the engine if it did.

I've seen it lots of times. The spark plug connectors are puddles in the bottom of the spark plug well too. Those are the two things we use to know that the car did not just start running bad for no reason as many customers have complained over the years.

I generally takes a pegged gauge. In most cases the motor survives fine. They are very well made and the alloys are among the best.

Makes me cringe to think about it. I guess if the block is good enough for an F40 it'll take a little abuse, still......................no wonder these things catch on fire and burn to the ground.

The unit I replaced it with was identical except the plastic was white instead of the brown color. It came in a sealed Ferrari box also. A superceed?
