Yesterday while out driving around, heard a slight grinding in the steering column. I thought well "...it probably has something to do with the horn wire repair I did several months back. I pulled the steering wheel and nope, it's deeper in the bowels of the steering column. So the next step is to remove the large nut under the steering wheel.

Does anyone out there have the tool they can lend to remove / reinstall the nut? I'm more than happy to have a socket cut down to fit this nut, but thought I'd check and see if anyone has one available for a week or so.

That's the ring nut. From the research I have done you need the have one made from a socket.

I'm betting the turn signal stalk cluster is broken inside the steering column. That happened to my '85 QV a couple years ago. I had it fixed but it still makes a slight rubbing sound but not like the horrific grinding that was going on when it first broke.

So, Mine just started doing the same thing on a 308 QV. However, everything else seems to be working fine. I dont notice any difference in the wipers, turn signal, or lights. Is it common that everything seems normal and yet its still broken? Ill have to take mine apart also it looks like...

Have you checked the small U-joints just below where the column goes under the dash?
Look above the pedals. These need to be oiled (30W non-detergent) every year or the bearings go after awhile.
