one thing it clearly shows is the beauty of Ferrari car design and butt ugliness of Porsches. I'll prob get flamed by the Porsche owners but that bath tub shape is UGLEEEEE.
BigAl, I agree, I personally think the newer 911's look like they have a load in their pants. If you take a side look at the 911 you can see how far back the engine sits behind the rear wheels. To me it looks like a little kid running around with a load in it's diaper.
Agreed. Not to mention they fail to mention the 400 is an auto. If they used a 5spd version it would have been a bit better...
And Porsches, the 82 "944" is a 951 or a 944S2 and the 928 is a 87+ S4, I am sure we could go on and on...
The 944 is a real 82, the 951 had 200+ horespower as did the S2 and both the 951 and the S2 are faster than the 308 they listed. The 928 meanwhile is a European S model, not an American one.
I wasn't disputing the facts and figures. The Porsche shown in the 1982 944 comparison is a Turbo, not a 82 na 944. I am pretty sure the phone dial wheels were not an option on the early 944s, plus that front end wasn't out until 1986.
Comparing only 0 to 60 and top speed.......sounds like a comparison done by a child. I wish we all could be more open minded to the fact that Porsches are great cars. They are an independently owned company with more racing victories than anyone else. Most of their cars are built like tanks and can go through 200,000 miles without needing a rebuild. Like all companies, they have built some average cars and some excellent ones as is case with Ferrari. The exclusivity factor will always belong to Ferrari but that in no way should deminish the quality of Porsche.
As this is a Ferrari discussion group, allow me some degree of close-mindedness. I in no way diminish Porsches; they are finely made, well engineered, well performing cars. Its just IMHO they are not attractive cars, especially compared to Italian designed cars. The Italians definitely have something on automotive styling the Germans dont.
Not only the regular 911 are ugly but there ultimate Porsche Carrera GT still ugly compare to the Enzo.... IMO
although the 911 is a great car, massaging and evoluting the same design over the past 30 yrs isnt the greatest achievement. ferrari pumps out a clean sheet less than every 8 yrs, they by far have the upper hand in design........just to list some oldies for you GTO, TR, 355, Enzo, Lusso, daytona etc......
@ Dave don´t get me wrong. I like the Ferrari design too. (that´s why I´m here and thinking about buying a F-car). But Porsche is a different story. Imagine, Porsche is one of the smalest car companies in the world with a great history and they are still independent. Porsche tried to replace the 911 but not successful, these days the takeover by Daimler-Chrysler was only a question of months. Today the 911 is still the most sold Porsche sports-car (ok, behind the Cayenne... ) The design of a sports-car is important but not everything. For me, the F360CS is the first serious 8-cylinder for the track. But primary for flat tracks. On a track like the Nürburgring (where I drive very often) even the F360CS is slower than a GT3. The F430 seems to be the first Ferrari for a track like this. Do you want some comparsions? Nürburgring-Nordschleife BMW M3 CSL:............................7.50 min F 360 CS:.................................7.56 min GT3:........................................7.54 min GT3 RS:....................................7.47 min Hockenheim F1 Racetrack: BMW M3 CSL:...........................1.13,5 min F 360 CS:................................1.13,0 min GT3:.......................................1.13,2 min GT3 RS:...................................1.11,8 min The tests have been made from "sportauto", the leading sports-car magazine in Germany. The comparsion of engine power and 0-60 mph is silly. Just my 2cents... Bernd
Both companies make great cars. I own 2 of one and one of the other (as does Napolis). Enjoy 'em. Stop bashing, start driving.
