    I'll admit it -- I'd never had my hands on a slick shift gate from Hill Engineering until this afternoon when I received another box of goodies from Paul. The finish is perfect -- they look identical to OEM Ferrari gates, except for the slick shift points. I've got a handful of 5-speed (348, 328, 308) gates in stock, and ready for track season!! To be honest, I might need to actually take one myself and do a little "testing" (wink wink) and see how they work.

    As always, I respect the need to temper my commercial posts here... so let me know if I'm crossing a line.

    I just took a die grinder/file to my 308 gate and it looked exactly the same as what I see on Hill's site.

    If it works, "more power to ya!". I'd enjoy seeing a picture of the finished product and see what shift angles you calculated would be best for your car/throw.

    I did the same thing to mine several years ago. It's not quite the same as if it was machined from scratch, but it's close enough. Works well., and the surface has never shown any rust. The 3X8 cars aren't designed to be speed shifted anyway, but it does makes it slightly smoother.

    I never really noticed a difference with mine. One thing I did notice, though, is my shifter lock thing no longer fits.

    I sold the car a year ago and unfortrunately have no photos of it. I concur that it didn't make any noticable difference, as anyone who speed shifts on a regular basis would be asking for trouble.

    Why do I have to sign in to see the shift gate?

    Is it just an issue with the link?

    So has anybody every just removed the entire gate? Wonder how the car would shift then? I may try that...

    I did, it's still a crappy shifter after doing that, changing oil etc. It's the worst part of the 348 expereince. Other than that... great.

    It sounds like you may need to adjust the ends of the cables on the translator assembly. I have played around with these on my 348 and found that even 1 turn out will make a huge difference between shifting smoothly or not. The other thing that I have just recently found out is that the cable assemblies on my car were quite dry - I have talked to the tech guys at Kluber who have suggested a special grease that will help. I am in the process of making an adaptor to go over the ends of the cable so that I can hydraulically force the new grease down the cable. My 348 actually shifts very well as it is at the moment and can only think that it will help immensely after the newly greased cables go in.

    If you have a search in the archives there are a couple of posts talking about the adjustment on the translator assembly - I seem to remember taking photos as well.

    With regard to the Slick Shift gates, I would also suggest doing a search in the archives to see what people think!

    I drove local Fchatter Spider348's beautiful 348 last fall and his shift linkage was smooth as silk. It was better than my Toyota! (And that's saying something!) If your 348 doesn't shift smoothly, this experience tells me that with some adjustments/cable cleaning/etc. your can be fixed.

    I bought one last fall from Hill and installed it on my 246.

    Makes an improvement, for sure. Smoother shifts easier transition from 1-2 without missing.
