Hello Ferrari community. I know you are all sick of hearing from me by now. However, I need your help again. I just received the following pics of the service manuals, tool case and a quote to replace all the keys from the dealer where I am about to purchase a 360. The dealer is going to pay for the keys. I had a great conversation with Chris Kelly yesterday about what it takes to replace the keys and am a little confused as to why this dealers' quote is so low. Chris had intimated that the cost would be considerably higher. Does my dealer's explanation on the word document seem plausible? Obviously, I don't care what it costs since I am not going to pay for the keys (car is missing the red key), but I don't want to get the car with three useless keys either. In addition, there appear to be some missing tools plus the flashlight. Should I make an issue of this or just replace them myself. How much would it cost to have the missing tools replaced? I heard the same story from Chris Kelly, too. $9K for the replacement of the ecu and three new key fobs. Who's right on this one, enquiring minds want to know.
I had a friend here at Fchat that bought a car that at one time we had instock...when he recived the car (that he did not buy from us) the red fob was missing...Low and behold the black fob battery died, and there was no red fob, which is the master fob...The car was would not start..my friend went to his dealer, and they told him the steps he would need to take to replace the alarm, and switch the banks on the engine...to allow for the new alarm...the cost to do it all was $7,000...the issue was not getting the red key fob, itself, though I have been told that is on back order as well, but it is getting the pin code from Farrari. My friends car just sat there and it could be driven...we ware able to help him get the code from a dealer friend of mine, but it did take a better part of 3 months...since that issue I will not look at cars that do not have the pin code programmed to the red fob...I know some here will try to debate me on this, but I have seen it first hand, and have delt with it! Though I only know the prices told to me for the ECU change from right to left banks, maybe some dealers are less then one my friend went to... For more information call your local franchise Ferrari dealer..and ask about the red fob, and what it cost if the black fob ware to quit working...and the car will start...
This is exactly what Chris told me too. However, when you read what the dealer is quoting, he says specifically the ECU soes not need to be changed out unless it is the third remote change and the time to get the pin from Ferrari is only 4 weeks. Herein lies the dilemma!!! RSS

I hope that this is true, because it was not the case for my frind here that went through it just a few months ago..I will check with my buddies tomorrow and see what the prices are across the board....From what we went through it was somewhat diffcult to get the pin#...and his quotes ware up there...and to me, if the former owner could not keep track of there keys what else did they not keep track off... Hey Chris...thanks for the great conversation and all the info yesterday. Loved talking with you. The quote is from the Ferrari dealer in Portland. He seemed to indicate there would be no trouble getting the pin. I'll let you know how things go. Look forward to seeing you in August. What about the missing tools and the flashlight...no big deal? Be sure to post pics of your new car and check out the link I provided in my edited post above...My adivce would still be to call them go over your concerns with that issue..is it a issue to walk away from?? Thats for each buyer to figuar out..I can tell you this though from first hand experince on the issue... As for the tools? Once again like the red key, why did they not stay with car...though somtimes these parts ware with the car when traded in or sold, but ware misplaced by the dealers, broker or wholesalers...so I do not know..LOL but I always look for complete cars....though this would not be a deal killer by any means...and the price is right on this car you are looking at....Even Fenzoman would be impressed!
I swore that I'd stay away from this subject but..... If you don't have the red remote (fob) or the alarm pin it can get expensive and take some time fix. No local dealer (2) would order the pin for me and FNA wouldn't help because I didn't buy the car from the local franchise. When I asked how they would fix it they said that they had to replace the alarm system (alarm board) $2100.00 and get a set of remotes $700.00 and they would only guarantee the parts if they installed them $900.00 - $1100.00 for a total of $3700.00 - $3900.00 BUT! they said if it doesn't properly link to the ECU (when an alarm is linked to the car it becomes a "married" pair with the ECU so you need to switch the left and right ECU's) I'd have to buy a new ECU $2200.00 and they would only guarantee the parts (and that it would work) if they installed it an additional $900.00 - $1100.00 for a possible grand total of $7200.00. And the icing on the cake at the time this happened to me there was a "worldwide" (their words not mine) back order on the alarm parts (remotes) and it would be approximately 14 weeks before they could get them. The missing tools can be replaced (they are not cheap) and the flashlight is $128.00 (ricambi) so I would try to put the screws to the seller to provide you with a complete car. Just my .02
I have a 360 Modena, and currently only have 1 black remote and 1 key. I wasn't aware that if the black battery died, that it could require a $7000 security system modification. My question is: Is there something I can do now to prepare for this? Is there some sort of reciever/decoder that can get the pin while my remote still has battery life? Also, my car is a euro. Does this change the availability of the remotes or pin codes? Would they be cheaper, more expensive or the same? Is the risk of changing the alarm board and ECU still present on Euro models? The battery can be replaced. I think where Chris was confused is that mine would kill a battery in about 48 hours just before it quit working all together. It might not be a bad idea to get at least the pin for your alarm. You just need a dealer that will do it for you ($175.00 - $350.00) PM Chris (Premier Motorcars of SF) he may be able to help.

So doesn't this eliminate all the fear associated with buying a car without the red remote? If I'm not misunderstanding, it seems as if you can: 1) Take the black remote to the dealer shortly after you buy the car, 2) Pay $175-350 to get the pin for the alarm board. 3) Write it down somewhere safe. And then if you ever loose your remote, it would only be a $700 remote replacement? It seems like this isn't a $7000 worry? Please correct me if I'm wrong. By the way, are there any other remotes that are compatible with the Ferrari system? My current one isn't so attractive and bulk and has limited range.
Get the tools and flashlight off of ebay (yes, "genuine" stuff, but perhaps slightly used). $85 for the light, $400-ish for the tool kit as I recall. Don't make $500 worth of likely unecessesary swag a big deal for a car that is approaching a hundred grand. Or save your money and buy a generic mag light and a screw driver.
If they will get you the pin you still need the red remote. The red is the master remote and is the only way to program a black remote. You can program a new red remote using the pin and the key on/off that is covered in the owners manual. I was unable to get a dealer to get me the pin (that's where Chris saved me)they both wanted to replace everything.
I was recently informed that the red "master" fob can only be used to program a black fob on a 355 and it is not possible on a 360. Anyone know any different and if so what is the procedure? I also do not see anything in my 360 manuals about programming a new black fob from the red one.
