Anyone have a Escort S2 Solo, this one takes batteries.

Opinions of it? Does it work well for LIDAR as well?

Are they worth the price vs a Cobra or other radar detector?

The Valentine looks a little pricy and overrated IMO, I like the idea of a cordless detector as in my BB the cig lighters are on the door sills.

I haven't had a detector in years but have had a few close calls on my out of town runs so its time to get one.The Escort sells for around $350 @ best Buy and such but I have seen many sellers with them brand new for $250 on Ebay.

Avoid that piece a *** like the plague. I bought one for a motorcycle, and to test it I ran both 8500 and S2 side by side (in a car) for 1 week. The S2 went off about HALF the time, and only when very close to the radar. It will do nothing but give you a false sense of security and probably a ticket. I returned it.

The SOLO S2's "High-Efficiency Power Management" is hardly rocket surgery. It saves the two AAs by putting the sentry to sleep more than 85 percent of the time. It just switches off the power-using detector circuitry.

A sleeping sentry can't possibly give early warning when radar is used in the instant-on mode. And it gives up all hope of detecting the POP mode.

The last test I saw comparing the Valentine One to the S2 had the V1 in the lead in all radar bands by 1/3-2/3 of a mile in every radar band and the S2 can't detect POP radar at all.

    As far as lidar detection:

This is the latest laser detection test that was done. It looks like the Valentine One detects laser almost 100% of the time when shot from 1000 feet or lower in this test.
