As I post 2 weeks ago, I bought Ricky's CS.
To bring the car in Canada, I need a recall clearance letter.
It's a document issued by Ferrari N. America that states there are any outstanding recalls on my CS.
So...2 weeks ago, I called Ferrari to know how to get that letter... and they told me that I have to pay 2000$ to get it!!!
I made the transaction with Ricky and called back Ferrari.
Now...1 week later, they're asking 5000$ for the same letter!!!!
    5000$ for a paper!!

    I'm pissed off!!!!!

But, I have an other possibility...
Any authorized Ferrari dealer can make me a letter.
Basically, the letter just has to state that: "This 2004 Ferrari CS, VIN number xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx has no outstanding recalls". That's all.
The letter must be on the dealer's letter head and be signed by the service manager.
No Ferrari Dealer in Canada wants to give me that letter... They protect their market!!!
The only possibility is to get a letter from a US Ferrari Dealer.
But I do not have a relationship with any dealer in US....
The Car is still in Florida, waiting for that F*cking letter to bring it back in Canada...
    Anybody can Help???

this is the first time i'm hearing about the letter costing $5000. I've been hearing $2000 for a very very long time now. Just another thing they are doing to try to get the Canadians to buy in Canada instead of from the states.

Reminds me of something that happened at the Reading Ferrari show two years ago. There was a gent there that has a very long history with Ferrari, I believe he is the North America rep or owns the rights for Pininfarina. Any way he picked up a 550 Barcheta at the factory. took it down the road to Pininfarina where he wanted a custom paint treatment. He had them paint the front spoiler, the rocker panels and the rear fascia with wome sort of rubberised paint, that matched the dark beige color of the interior perfectly. Pinifarina charged him $3,000 to do the work. He asked FNA to put the paint work on the window sticker so that the paint would be "original factory" and not an aftermarket modification. FNA charge him $30,000 to do it!! The car looked kind of strange Yellow with beige leather on the spoiler etc.

How much was the recall letter for the other Stradale? Is it also on the hook for one or has it not cleared customs yet, either?

the last owner was able to get the letter from the dealer in Mtl. Easy in 2005.
Now, because of the US dollar, lot of people want to bring cars in Canada, and to protect the market, they don't want to help.

Can you ask Ricky to see if his dealer will do it for him?

Wow, they're obviously making it more difficult to bring cars into Canada.(as a US resident I don't really mind. I'd rather see cars stay here then disappear because we're gett'n F'd with the dollar) I would think that an output from F's puter might do the trick. Any service manager would probably do that. Have the closest FLA one do it for you. Good luck.

I recently sold a porche turbo to a canadian and they asked for the same letter. The porsche dealer here in CA. where he had the car inspected gladly typed up a simple letter for him. Like you said it only needs to be on a company letterhead and just has to state they're are no recalls at the present time. I used to service my 360 at Ferrari of Orange County 714.662.7600 Alan the service manager was always very kind and helpful. I would try calling him, If that doesn't work....well..hmmmm try kinkos...

Okay, if you are paying $30,000 to have something printed on your window sticker, you need to re-think your priorities in how you spend your money. I do not care how rich you are, some things are just stupid.

So what did they do with your original $2,000 if they want $5,000 more? I would say, 'You asked for $2,000 to do it. I paid you. Now give me my letter'.

I have some history with DOT import. If it is anything like the U.S. they just need to check the box.

Call any Ferrari shop that has an F car on there letter head. They should print up the letter for you... Make sure to add Contact info and business card. Should fly right through. I doubt very much the law states it has to be from a Authorized dealer, and even if it does I doubt very much they will take the time to do any research.

    Good luck

I just this August sold a ski boat to a dealer in Canada and he also needed from Mastercraft a 'no recall letter' but the dealer could not prepare it.

You are absolutely correct. But people are willing to pay 50 to 75K premiums for F cars. Pay $300.00 for a part from FNA when you can go to Auto Zone and get the same part nomber from Bosch fro $40.00. $2500 or more for routine maintance cars with belts etc;. Part of owning a Ferrari!!!!

This was Ron Spangler's Barchetta. I remember first seeing the pictures of his car and wanting to cry. He is friends with some of the local Ferrari owners as well.

On such a rare car it probably helps to have it on the window sticker "factory option". Might be well worth the $30k

Yes the Ron Spangler Ferrari was an early car (123697) number 25 of 448 built. He has been around Ferrari cars for a long time; especially older models.
