    I WANT A DECISION!

I only have a decision from one of the six schools I applied. One school offered an early notification option, where if you applied very early, they would let you know in December. They decided (or rather didn't decide) that they would like to include my application in the regular applicant pool. Still haven't heard from them.

Another school just let me know today that I am on "hold" and they would like another essay from me. JUST MAKE A DECISION! If I was this indecisive, they wouldn't want me as a student, but they have some sort of divine right to dangle this carrot in front of my nose.

I thought that at the very least, the schools where I was *most* qualified and the schools where I am *least* qualified would give me decisions fairly quickly, but that was only the case for my "safety school."

Did anyone else go through this crap when they applied to graduate schools?

I applied in late September and got back my admits in late Jan then late Feb, then rejections late Mar through early May. This doesn't mean anything though. You just have to wait it out. It is agonizing. But, it does make going to the mailbox very exciting every day.

I'm applying for jobs and many people just aren't friendly to deal with and won't call back or respond to email. It is hypocritical because you should expect much less from them, which in turn makes me wonder why I'd want to work for a company that has poor communication skills or just doesn't care about others who somewhat rely on them.

I was a advised to call a professional board for some assistance with contact info and the woman I was connected to won't call back. However, the one company I really want to work for has been good with communication, and I'm about to go to a 2nd interview with them (out of 3 rounds). I hope that is over soon with the decision that I have been accepted!

Whether applying to school or for a job, one thing is for sure...it's stressful!

Write your essay on exactly that... Be bold, but be clever and make it about how schools dangle admission like carrots, etcetera and so forth... This way, even if you don't get in, you told them to go spit in a very convenient and appropriate way... :)

If I had your GPA, I wouldn't be going through this crap either. I feel like my LSAT is keeping school from rejecting me, but my GPA is keeping them from accepting me.

GPA isn't a very good measure of ones abilities as far as I can tell. I hated, with a passion, classes. I didn't like the structure, the assignments, tests, any of it, and as a result did a lot worse than I am capable of in them. I was the brightest star in the sky of researchers however, and that went a long long way with applications to grad school and such, I was fortunate. If you can demonstrate you have some ability which goes above and beyond the mindless regurgitation which classes require and GPA's reflect, write your essay about that.

    It's easy to be self-deprecating with a 3.9 GPA.

My LSAT score does a good job of showcasing my intelligence, but that raises the question of, "If he can score a 99th percentile on the LSAT, why can't he do well in classes?"

You had to write an essay to get in?

Wow, I got in with letters of recommendation, the GRE scores were a formality.

    I wouldn't write Chicago.

Wait a while. If you don't get into a comparable school and push is coming to shove, then MAYBE write a small note saying you would come to Chi if admitted (if you would). Don't waste their time, and more importantly, don't say anything that would make them thow your app out. Which includes saying too much.

My wife worked grad school admissions and I was just talking with my neighbor who's working for a college admissions - people who are waitlisted who do dumb overreactive things get thrown from the waitlist. You'd be surprised what people will send in.

    Sorry to hear about HLS...
