I came across this article, which some might find useful... http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/howto/articles/45792/article.html
Ive been trying it since I found the article. Takes a bit of practice! Made a right arse of myself on one bend! Sticking to the drive is a good plan.
tried on way to work today.. erm, I haven't 'bunny rabbited' like that since learning to drive.. . Someone shouted out 'Hired that did you?' then laughed. I just went red.
I find it easier when braking harder. I initally found that practicing getting the revs right just playing up and down the box without braking makes it easier. Can't beat getting it right though- that's why, I guess, I prefer a manual... [ducks below parapet awaiting hail of brickbats from F1-shift drivers] Robert.
Agree with both of those points. I read the bit about practicing rev matching without brakes on a web site somewhere but I can't for the life of me find it any more. Trying it going slow is useless - You've got insufficient speed and hence insufficient revs to play with to get it right. Ade - Go find a country road somewhere with a few bends you know well and try it there, when there's little traffic around. If such a road exists these days... One thing you need to decide is how you're gonna actually do it - some people brake with the toe and use the heel on the throttle. Some do it the other way around. I find it easier to brake with the ball of my foot and roll my ankle to blip the throttle. Heel doesn't really come into it. Whichever way you do it, you'll be moving your foot in a direction you're not used to, and it'll be tough at first.
Tried it in the wifes golf a while ago...scared the bejesus out of my mum in the passenger seat...gave up sheepishly!
Yep, that's the way I have done it in the past, but it all depends on the position of the pedals, and the width and stiffness of your footwear. Worked great on my Lancia Fulvia, but I can't get it on my 308. Becomes especialy fun if you try and squeeze in a double declutch whilst you are at it....
Hold on, let me get this right. A pretty standard piece on heel and toeing just got posted on here and some of you are only now saying you tried it??? Im sorry, but what kind of sports car driver doesnt heel and toe every downshift?
hum...perhaps a fair point if you've been driving sportscars for yrs... or done some track racing, however I'm probably quite inexperienced... sorry. Apparent I have always 'DD-Clutched'.... or whatever its called.... But basically I alway rev matched on a down shift BUT without braking at the same time. So the new element for me here is the braking at the same time.. Time for some practice on the way to Clacketts tonight!
One that isn't braking? A true sports car driver will blip the throttle on the upshift too- like McQueen in Bullitt! Robert.
I learnt to drive in Nova's and my first car was a booted 1ltr Nova. I learnt heel and toeing in that! I heel and toe my gf's 1.7 ZX diesel! I only tend to DD clutch when Im really pressing on. Considering however, we are talking Ferrari's, Id have considered DD clutching and heel n toeing as absolutely mandatory on a Fezza box!
Thats actually pretty hard to do smoothly in traffic on a normal road. Ive tried to do it several times and just cant get it working smoothly and fast enough for normal road driving.
I thought from the title of the thread you all were talking about a manoeuvre I do on the wife in bed. Leaves her begging for more.
