    With progressing electrical problems, another Mondial owner and I bought the two prototype rebuilt and upgraded fuseboxes from GT Autoparts in Arizona. This is a continuation of their successful program rebuilding TR fuseboxes which have the same problems as the Mondials (go figure). The units are rebuilt with a newer technology circuit card in the original box to replace the old multilayer card; all of the original cards delaminate with time. The boxes come with used relays, so I went ahead and bought all new relays and put them in to start afresh. I used the newer plastic sealed relays where available, as they are a bit better than the old metal style.

    Both of the prototypes are installed and working well in our cars without any problem - so far so good. For more info call GT directly at 623-780-2200.

    These are rebuilt OEM boards and are not Clive's new production boards due out soon, available through Scott (smg) in California.

    good to hear progress being made, its winter here and so car off road (actually removing a ton of rust!!) so will wait until Clives is available and if not then will find out more about your guys method. I guess I'd have to ship from NZ and wait?

    This just may be an illusion, but after living with the Mondial now for a while with the new fuse box, many little electrical things are not as iffy as before; windows seem to go up and down faster, glovebox opens faster, light stalk switch works better, things just seem to be operating more crisply.
    We'll see how she holds up!

    I also had my alternator re-built to over 100 Amps output, so the battery sure seems more willing than in the past!

    Having my alternator rebuid also made thing work alot better. No more dim lights, instrument illumination is ALOT brighter now, windows work faster too. Might just be the alternator.

    We had a huge discussion on exact topic this over on the other -Talk board. There is an excellent discussion on one vs two wire schemes, and JR completely outlines how to put a larger GM alternator in your car. There is also talk about upbuilding the one you have, which is what I did. If you look at the history of the Mondials, Ferrari kept uprating the alternators themselves!!

    Can anyone comment o the longterm usage of the GT rebuild for a Mondial? I am tempted to get their product, but would like to know more current data before the $1000.00 commitment. Does it look good? Quality work?

    Russ, did you make some pictures of that newer layers ? I'm very curious to see what product they used and how quality is working out...

    So far, the box is holding up well. I did not get any inside photos, unfortunately; outside it's totally stock.
    So far, so good - remember that it does not come with new relays, so I put all new ones in (not very expensive if you use the Bosch part #).

    Whatever became of the new manufacture box?

    Are using 2 now...on 2 different cars.
    1e we used a 412 box and tranformed it for mondial. Wires instead of the layers. Same female and male connectors, but its working great. (see picture 1)

    2e : with new board of 2.0 mm instead of 1.5 mm thickness :
    - Female connectors for relays are changed into thicker ones with 2x 2.5 mm2 pins ;
    - Thicker female connectors for fuses with double pins ;
    - Wider male connectors with 2 pins for the other connections (white plastic holders).
    I hat to cut all the incoming wires and put regular female connectors into the white holders. Hat to transform also the white holders so those connectors would fit. For 2 weeks now and everything is working great. Only that black plastic protections for the fuses are missing...could not find those. (see picture 2)

    I put also alu protection sheets above the relays. Temperature before of working fuelpump relay whas 60-70 °C...after temperature fel down to 34 °C. I used the same screws as for the big plastic cover.

    Russ, would you find some time in winter to remove the new GT box and remove the back of it...its only 5 parkerscrews. Take some pictures... So people who are interested in ordering one, can realy see that changes are done.

    You mean you were able to fit this kind of connector inside the white holders? That is a great idea and very probably the solution to the problem.
    Can you please be more specific? got more pictures?

    In the latest productfase I used that female connector without isolation.
    The male connector whas put 90° turned than the original on the board. Then in the white plastic holders I slised with a metal saw spaces so the female could fit and still there is enough plastic left as isolation between 2 connectors.....

    I installed the GT auto parts remanufactured board last week in the 82 Mondial and have all but one electrical gremlin gone--on right turn signal with headlights on get fast click--suspect front turn fog running light ground is bad but have not had time to fix it.

    Does anyone have any updated information of this topic? ie: How are the new boxes working? Did anyone else ever produce a new fuse box? If a Mondial 3.2 owner needs a new box, are there now 2 or more options?

    As I have already disassembled and repaired my fusebox once, I too would like to see if there is an alternative out there.
