    Hi all,

Planning on visiting Maranello in the Fall and have arranged for a factory tour. Any tips or suggestions to a first-timer from those of you who have made the pilgramage yourselves?

I'm packing my Canon EOS300D, a telephoto, wide angle and macro lens as well as 3GB worth of memory... Anyone know if they allow tripods on the premises?

Also, I know the Ferrari "baby books" can get stamped while visiting. Anyone know if there is a special procedure for this?

    Thanks.

Don't bother bringing the camera into the factory as they will make you check it at the door! There are lots of other things to photograph while you are there.

Make sure that you visit the Galeria Ferrari, as well as the shops that are right adjacent to the store, and when you go into Hors Linge....say hi to Paolo for me.

Hmmm... good point... Ok, then, I'll leave it in the car.

    What's Hors Linge, a shop?

The pre-set Ferrari Tour is great! I did it in Spring of 2005.

Just don't go to the strip-club in Modena... we lost 1400 euros in there after a long night of some fantastic Italian wines.

BE ON TIME. It's a big deal. Plan on spending all day and peek at the track. Go to Dakota restaurant. The Ferrari store has stuff you can't buy everywhere.

No, it was a suggested "excursion" for us alcoholic Americans by the concierge at the Planet Hotel.

I might be one of the first people to puke in a bathroom at the factory from being hung over during the tour.

Do not try to take children under 16 years of age to the factory - it won't work. They have heard all the excuses before.

Do not bother to take your cell phone or camera to the factory.

You will have a great time - don't ruin it for others by trying to circumvent the rules. My last tour was delayed by 45 minutes because some jerks were trying to take an underage child on the tour - didn't work.

Try to have a meal at the Cavallino restaurant across the street from the factory.
The food alone is well worth it, but the setting and the personalities you may run into make it special.
Choose your exit from the Autostrada carefully, as the drive along the State Road is a pain...

Related question from a non Ferrari owner, how do you schedule a tour of the factory? I've heard from some that you need a good relationship with your Ferrari dealer, but others have said they called the factory and got lucky. How did you guys get hooked up with the tour? Thanks.

Must be a Ferrari owner or on a waiting list for a Ferrari. Unless you have connections with someone at the factory level.

don't know how long you'll be there, but try to get to the nearby lambourghini and pagani factories. also don't forget to see the galleria. stay at the planet if you didn't already make reservations. they stamped the books at the end of the tour. not much to know about the tour. you show up and do what they say. don't be afraid to talk to the factory workers. one of them gave me a "meccanica" patch off his jacket. in the lambo factory (where they allow kids), factory workers gave my kid several things as we walked down the line.

I just met a guy who isn't a Ferrari owner and he also doesn't have any connections to anything car related. He claims that he went on the tour but, everything he mentions is exactly what was shown on the t.v. show about the new 599. I feel he is lying and I don't like liars, I want to tell him that he is lying... So is the Ferrari tour at the factory ONLY for Ferrai owners or VIPs?

    "Arranging a Factory Tour
The factory is located just outside the small town of Maranello south and a bit west from Modena. You can arrange a tour by contacting your local dealer. This is the easiest route. Otherwise you can contact the factory directly by phone or fax. Dialing from the USA put a 011 in front of the 39 and dial all the rest of the numbers.

It is pertinent that an appointment is made because otherwise they will not allow a factory tour. "

i imagine there a buch of ways to get in, but they all start with owning the car or knowing somebody. just ask him how he got in if he doesn't own one.
