One guy has a Ferrari in Florida. One guy has money in California.

What is the best way, safest for both parties, to pay for the car, without flying out to Florida?

In other words, how have you done this before?

    Thanks, Jay

You both go to your bank and have the bankers do the transaction (one gives the other the wire instrucitons, and the seller's banker holds the title and then Fedex's it to the buyer once the wire clears. Also you can do it through a set of local car dealers, although some will have to charge some sales tax for a transaction that they take part in.

    I just purchased a 2002 BMW M5 in PA & I am in FL

We used the sellers Attorney in PA to hold the title & $ in escrow.

Once my dealer friends told me the title was clean I sent the $ to the atty who filled out the buyer info w my name on the title & Fed Exed it to me

    1) Get the car inspected by an independent source

    2) Get a carfax

    3) ensure the title is clean & negotiable

    4) hire an Atty or a banker, the BMW dealer did not want to get involved in this

    easy peasy

I just bought a car but I flew out and checked it out. Not sure why you would want to buy a car blind when an airline ticket is so cheap.

I flew out and met the seller. Had a PPI completed. Wired the money and got the title. Had transport pick up the car (a few days later). If leaving the car with the seller makes you nervous, the dealership that does the PPI will often will hold the car for the transport company.

The answers so far are all good. Another option is an escrow company, like Chicago Title. They will do the transaction but the fees are more than the ticket would be.

Be careful about buying a car sight unseen. I have seen too many people do and not get what they paid for. Then they start crying foul.

    Buyer beware.

I've said ths before on another post. All you have to do is find a 3rd party mechanic in the area, pay him a couple hundred bucks to go and test drive and check out the car for you. He will report to you better than you could to yourself about little things wrong with the car.

Go to the bank and wire the money that way. Make sure you get a CARFAX.

I'm dealing with this current scenario. I'm selling my pick up, which I still owe on the loan. If I sell private party, how is the best way to make the transaction work for the buyer?

You're in California and you want to buy a Florida car?
Number 1 question; can you get the car to pass smog in CA?
    What kind of Fcar?
