I have a 75' 308GT4 with the original Michelin 205/70VR14 tires. It is my understanding that these tires are no longer available.I need to replace the tires on the car. My question is has anyone out there tried Sumitomo tires? Sumitomo HTR200 is a tire I am considering as a replacement to my Michelin tires. Is this a good choice or not?

I have them on my 72 Dino.

Ride great, quiet, handle well, mechanic loves them, and at $40 a piece a steal.

Put about 1000 miles on them this month, and they run great.

I also had the Sumi performance tire on my 911, loved them too.

These tires have been a pleasant surprise. I highly recommend them,

They are available at Coker Tires. Not cheap mind you...

    true,

But unless you're planning on concours competition, or you have a need for the car to be absolutely period correct to suite you personally, one XWX will cost you more than a set of the Sumi's, or for that matter a nice set of Pirelli P4000 touring tires.

$379 each for the Michelins, plus freight, mounting etc, from Coker. That's a whole bunch of money for a VR rated tire.

Spend $1895 for a set of 5 michelins or $210 for the Sumitomos. hmmmmm..... lemme think. If you're not showing the car, I think the choice is obvious.

And no, I don't work for Sumitomo.

Exactly. That's why I've got the Pirelli's on my car. :) Just thought I'd let those that want to know that the Michelin's are available... At a cost...

And as Mitchell (aka Yelcab) points out, 130mph is plenty fast (these are jail-time speeds!). Hey Mitch, planning on going to Concorso? I'll be there. Bring your GT4 along, I'd love to see it.

I have been using the Pirelli Super Touring P4000 for 3 years and love them. I tracked the Dino once at Moroso with these tires and they were excellent in the corners. Never got above 120 mph (short track) so I don't know how they would handle at higher speeds.

BTW-according to rules no points may be deducted at concours for having non-original tires. New (non Michelin XWX) tires are perfectly acceptable as long as they are the stock size and don't look out of place on the car (e,g no raised white lettering, etc.). I got this directly from a judge at Cavallino where I took a silver medal with the Pirellis on.

I understand that the Sumitomo tires are indeed quite good and at $40 bucks a tire they are a steal. If it were up to me I'd grab my ankles and call Coker for the XWX's. There is just no tire out there that looks as right as that one. It is a HUGE asthetic detail and one that you will only really have to do once. Just my 2 lira.

i recieved 4 Kumho tires i ordered through Goodyear. 39.00 each. fit well on my stock 14 x 7 1/2 308 wheels. hope to have the 16's on in a month or so. there is little to no chance to sustain speeds over 100mph around here. these will work just fine !

I had the sumitomos on my GT4 before I purchased my 16" wheels (328 wheels from Ferrari UK).

They performed well, and you just can't beat that price.
