I was wonder if the cabon ceramic brakes on the 430 is wise in terms of resale value....yes, I know these cars are not real investments and should only be bought for the joy and the fun of it.....i know that options should be ordered based on what you will enjoy and use the most ...but, from a strictly resale value point of view, where do ceramic brakes stand..how much of your intial cost is captured when selling the car??? Conversly, how much if any would you pay extra for a car with ceramic brakes...btw, i know the ceramic are mostly a track tool and replacement can be costly.......

pretty sure for the rest of the production line ceramics are going to be standard so there is now downside to getting them, maybe some upside since if someone is in the market for a new 430 and cant get on the list they will prob prefer a car that has them. i got them and i love them. there fine for everyday use too.

Ferrari store told me that they add little to resale and, perhaps, years down the road they may actually be a liability because potential buyers will be concerned about the very high parts prices.

Speaking of CCB's, is it worth the money, and, more importantly, will CCB's make that much of a difference if the F430 is used only on the street?

hey ronnie, i guess it all depends on how much the $16K means to u. I got them and like them. Nice to be able to do a track day and not have to worry, also no brake dust alone is worth the 16K to me.

well to clarify my answer - can't speak on the other guy's behalf. but if I'm buying a ferrari for basically enjoyment on the street (don't get me started with tracking, life insurance and wife&kids), and i've got my choice between two cars - one with the normal setup, the other with ceramic brakes - I'm going to choose the everyday Jane brakes. I only see ceramics being utilized by two types - those who track and those who want to give the appearance that they track (I realize this may be a somewhat jaundiced view yet explainable after having lived in Dallas). I have never really paid attention to their cost in the Ferrari world but an extra $12-15K in the Porsche world for everyday street driving doesn't make much sense to me. It actually makes me feel like I'm saving money when I don't check that box on the order sheet ;)

Now, if I'm searching for a late model Ferrari and the only one I find that meets all my criteria but has ceramic brakes, you can be rest assured that car will be in my garage by nightfall. they won't hinder the sale but i'm not going to pony up much, if any, for them.

Bottom line, order it how you would like it. For right now, I don't think ceramic brakes will bring hardly any premium upon resale unless you sell within the first couple of months. However, in the future(5 or so years), when/if Ferrari starts to put primarily ceramics in virtually every car, then I think "regular" brakes will cause the car to be discounted some - kinda like a moderately high mileaged vehicle.

whatever floats ur boat. when i was ordering my car the idea of resale value never crossed my mind. these are cars, they depreciate...who cares...

my answer to the question is based on the fact that a good number of cars will have them by default, and therefore a car without them will be considered a lesser car in the future.

FWIW a Ferrari technical rep told me the ceramic rotors will last the life of the car under normal street use.

My CS has ceramics and I love them. Most people care about the performance, but I care that they have very little brake dust to clean, and the huge brakes & rotors look amazing........... definitely worth it!!

I don't buy the crap that they will be a liability. Most new cars will come with them, so I think having a car without them is the liability!!! And, with normal use, they should last a very, very LONG time!

Steel rotors last the life of the car as well with regular brake pads. There is some question about ceramic rotors cracking or otherwise failing. While this may be an overstated fear, it is still in the minds of potential buyers. Pads are extremely expensive as well. Plus, it's not like the steel brakes suck. Stopping distances are identical, so the ceramics only show their advantage in very hard track use and less dust. I could have gotten them, but the 15,300 tag (2005) put me off. Someone pointed out recently that you could buy a killer aftermarket race quality system for far less. Nevertheless, I would have liked them, but not 15,300. worth, so I'll get along with crappy steel rotors. Meanwhile, I can bank the 15,300 and make a minimum of $700./year with it. Aftermarket buyers may actually get a break in that they can get a car equiped with them without paying a significant premium. In any event, I was just quoting someone who deals in these cars for a living for decades. He knows the market and knows what used buyers will look for. Frankly, I think his opinion carries more weight and has less bias than others. For those who have bought them and like them, great, but the original poster wanted to know how much of the original investment is recouped on resale. I think we can all agree everyone likes them, it's just a question of how much people now and in the future are willing to pay. The fact that only a small percentage of new car buyers ordered them offers a strong hint as to how people view price vs value.

From now on all Ferrari`s you will order have CCB as standard, because you have a min. leadtime of 6 Month overall to get a new ferrari.
All ferraris after Geneva autosalon will have CCB, no real question anymore.

I do not have Ceramic brakes on my 430, and drive it "quick" on the street. I track a Z-06 with no Ceramic Brakes and it does fine. I do have them on a heavy Bentley GT which stops so suddenly I almost have to warn passengers. None on my other cars including SCCA T-1 C6 raced regularly. Bottom line, if you like them get them, but nobody "needs" them unless they track often and hard. There is no brake dust and they fill the wheel. If this is a priority then its worth it. If money is an issue it is a moot point. However, even if you will wear out a set of rotors and or regular pads, it pales by comparision to a set of "cracked" Cermamics. They are overkill for street use. Resale? Everyone here wants a Red Ferrari, if true, why are there so many other colors sold daily. There is car for everyone and for those who can afford it, a car. The best sales pitch is a PPI. Best
