Does anyone make a lexan rear window for an 88.5 TR? Got a nice 6" crack in the drivers side corner of mine. OE is about $2500 and will probably just crack again. Any options?

    Thanks,
    TT

You can beat that price any day of the week. I'm sure you can get it for well under 2k. Look around for salvage glass, as well.
Your glass should not be cracking for no apparent reason. That window is a solid hunk of glass!

You can certainly use a plastic rear window, but there are drawbacks to it.
I believe they were made for track cars looking to lighten the weight.

I have heard of this happening if the car is jacked unevenly up by each corner, (chassis/body flexs ever so slightly and c^r-a^c-k) rather than equally at all 4 corners or at least by the rear and then the front, etc.......................Kerry

How do you jack the rear up all at once? Where is the jack point?
Are you saying that the jack that Ferrari supplied may result in a broken rear window when used?
That sounds like an instant lawsuit given the number of lawyers who own F cars.
Now you have got me paranoid.

How do you jack the rear up all at once? Use two jacks or a floor lift...................

Where is the jack point? Refer to owners manual..............

Are you saying that the jack that Ferrari supplied may result in a broken rear window when used? No..............

The owners manual was not much help. It doesn't even show exactly where it is....just ahead of the rear wheel. Not much detail. Single point.

You can jack up a TR's rear with a low profile jack and a good solid chuck of wood. The jacking point is under the gearbox section just ahead of the drain plug. You DO NEED something to distribute the weight evenly against the gearbox housing. But even with a low profile jack you still may not have sufficient room. I made a set of low profile ramps that I can drive my car up onto and get the all 4 wheels up about 4 inches off the floor in one easy step. Then there is plenty of room for a floor jack and a solid piece of wood to lift the rear of the car. You can also lift the front of the car this way too, but you must get the jack under the large frame cross member that is at the front of the passenger compartment, but just behind the front wheels. It's a little tough to get to.

Yes....you CAN break the rear window by jacking the car up from a "corner". The factory jack system is designed to just get the wheel and tire off the ground for changing....not for lifting the car 2 feet up....so the stresses are acceptable. But when people try and keep lifting the car bad things can happen.

The 4 factory jacking points are just behind the front wheels, and just ahead of the rear wheels. If you look under the car you should see a sort of "slot" or opening about 2 inches wide in the bottom flange or edge that runs along the length of the rocker panels. This slot is where you place the factory jack.
