This topic seems to be a popular one lately, as other TR owners have recently been posting about removing their alternators for rebuilding. Well during the recent inspection of my TR the mechanic mentioned that the my alternator was just starting to get noisey. My hearing isn't the greatest...so I used the old screw driver against the alternator and against my skull method. Sure enough...just starting to get sloppy. So I removed it tonight and will take it to a local shop for rebuilding. It's a straight forward procedure, but like others I had to remove many items to get to it. Total time spent, using just hand tools, and working very carefully, was about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get it out. I snapped a few pics for your amusement.

Fantastic post. This is a keeper for the archives. I know at one point in time I will have to do the altenator.

That is an A/C Delco unit and it shouldn't cost more than 200.00 to rebuild, bearings and all.
    Good luck Jeff.
