I've seen pics of one, but that has really wide rear arches. Is this real or fake? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-c0DZSnMtg&feature=rec-HM-r2#
Dont even have to look at that vid Sy, i know the one you mean. IMO if it did have a flat 12 in it then the camera man would have wanted to have filmed it in the car as well as from the out side. I shout fake I am not saying it cant be done because it can. Its just that vids fake IMO. If you look at the pictures of the F355 with the 12 in, you will see that the rear wheel arches are wider to hold the engine. The video one has standard arches. i agree with updating wheels for example put 355 or 360 wheels on a 348 but put a V12 in a 355 - na still its a ferrari and ferrari's are the best no matter wat
Its that age old thing of mans curiosity. No doubt more than one person has asked if the Flat 12 would fit the F355. So some one tried and did it. So now the question does not have to be asked again with no way of finding out. Theres the answer.. Cant take it away from the installation IMO, its a remarkable feat of engineering to make this one of wonder. It would be interesting to know how it handles the corners.
Interesting. It would appear that you can also put a V12 into a 308... see this amazing work in progress: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=170171 According to the gentleman attempting the conversion, here's the thinking behind it: It'll certainly be a car to behold when he's finished. All the best, Andrew.
That's a good point as well if the 'end product' is the only thing that matters to you. I think projects like this are probably undertaken more for the challenges they present throughout rather than the rewards upon completion. All the best, Andrew.
Speaking as someone who wanted to put a 360 engine/gearbox in my 348... I must applaud whoever did that engine conversion. Genius!!!
I agree Andrew, been there on a few projects, it's a great way to tear up money. However the end result is very rewarding to drive. I would like to think this 355 was reincarnated from a lost soul and the beating heart of a TR was avalable for transplant. Not to my taste, but a interesting thing no less.
Show me any hot rod that has made "sense" by any conventional definition. But if done right they can be extremely cool.
