Have been a passive fchatter since April. http://park-place-porsche.ebizautos.com/webdetail.aspx?iid=3070933 Current Porsche owner , had put in a word with my Porsche Salesman about wanting a Ferrari. He emailed me when they got a this on trade in. Your thoughts and opinions apprictiated. Right off the bat no shields and no challange grill, but right exterior and interior color. 2 owner car, salesman could not tell me if the variator campaign was done or not from the maintenance receipts he can see, Am scheduled to look at it Saturday. Thanks Bujji
looks good. euro or american? make sure campaigns are up to date, get records, car fax, and get a ppi. if this all checks out then it is not badly priced.
Pretty sure it is an American, have been looking/wanting 2002 and later models since reading up on the forum about all issue being fixed by then. Are the pre 2002 less desirable? Thanks Bujji
It is a US car. Complete service records? All fobs? (1 red 2 black) If it doesn't have the red fob or the code move on to next car.
some say the 99 are better because 2 less precats. if the campaigns are done, can be checked by giving vin number when you call a ferrari dealer to see if everything is up to date, the 99 are basically the same as an 02+ regardless of what they say, have them take it to ferrari dealer to do PPI. don't let one of there guys do it. good price if it checks out
True that the '99 cars made more power due to lack of air injectors and pre-cats however, overall the early cars had more problems. Should be noted that some '99 cars had frame cracking around the motor mount area which can be repaired. Also, 1st. generation TCU was antiquated vs. 2nd. generation.
Hmmm..... I wouldn't exactly say a great deal... pretty base model from what I can tell: no shields, standard & manual seats (which look a little worn in the shots), no grills, black interior (as opposed to the "defacto" tan), non painted calipers, no Tubi (if you are into that sort of thing), not ultra low miles at 11k, doesn't appear to be full leather interior, etc etc etc. Not saying it's a bad deal, just pointing out the more obvious things that you might want to consider. In some markets and in certain ppl's opinions these cars seem to get cheaper by the day. FWIW
And, a little silly, but that one shot of the engine is TERRIBLE! Even a quick shot with an air hose and it would have photographed much better. I take this sort of thing into consideration since it might reflect dealer prep.
IMHO, I think it's a great deal, if the car looks as good in person as the pictures, and has good history behind it... No repaint, belts, etc..etc...
I know sportscarcompany.com has a couple of 2000 360's with tan interiors in the $105k range (he is asking $109k but there is always room for neg and he has them listed on ebay). They are worth checking out too. http://www.sportscarcompany.com/ferrari.aspx?_makef=Ferrari&_model=360+Modena I have no affiliation, I've talked to Jim a couple of times and everyone around here says good stuff about him. Also Cat's had a on ebay a yellow 99 for $93k with 17k miles http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1999-Ferrari-360-Modena-F1_W0QQitemZ160248528764QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160248528764&
Yes very silly, that engine could be made to look better so easily. If PPI is OK, offer 90K and buy it. 11,000m is nothing for a '99.
I agree, I'm a clean engine freak as well. It is the show piece of the car. It shouldn't look like he used it to plow a dusty field.
Went looked/drove the car Saturday. The car felt right and drove well. The tail pipes looked even from every angle I looked from. The engine compartment looked dirty, I was told the car had not been through detailing. Observed Scrapes underneath the front spoiler pointed them out to the Salesman. He emailed back Quote They put the Ferrari in the shop for inspection today. While it was on the lift I inspected it from underneath. Except for the two little scrapes on the front which you saw, everything else looked unblemished. When they finish inspection and detail, I will let you know so that you can see the vehicle all cleaned up. Thanks for coming in on Saturday End quote The exterior was perfect although no clear bar on any part of the car. The interior looked and showed its age. Your thoughts please
The engine looking like that has nothing to do with a "not been through detailing".... it's just flat out DIRTY. Don't let them tell you any diff. Still makes me wonder if this car may have been neglected. Takes just minutes to hit it with a rag and some quick detailer; the fact that they didn't bother has me worried/confused. Scrapes under the front spoiler? Get used to it. You won't find one that doesn't unless it's just coming from the body shop. No clear bra AND it was perfect? You might check for a recent paint job.... maybe hiding some sort of repair perhaps? Regardless, I'd budget for a clear bra into your equation. Interior showing it's age? Hmmmm.... seat bolsters tend to show signs of wear. Low mileage cars should not show much wear at all. Higher mileage cars WILL show the wear. What are you going to do? Its one of those "you get what you pay for" things. If you really want a nice clean interior then move on to the next car as there are LOTS of clean 360s out there, usually priced accordingly. My thoughts.
where was this car driven before, in the desert? Why is it so dusty in the engine compartment? If someone cares for their car, they will at least blow the dust out of the engine compartment...the car looks nice in the pictures, and the mileage is decent; has it had belt service? I would have someone check it out that knows. Good luck.
As others have noted, never trust the selling dealer's "inspection". A true PPI by someone that is not the seller may be the best money you can spend.
