To my dismay, I parked my Maranello in an unfamiliar parking lot with very high railroad type crossties, and managed to tap my front spoiler into the wood. As a result of that very slow speed collision, the right point of the spoiler is cracked and looks terrible. My question is does anyone have experience with replacing/repairing the spoiler...and if so the part number and the cost.

I can't decide whether to sue the owner of the parking lot or just cry in my milk and try to forget about it...as just another mishap that can take place if you own and drive one of these exotics.

When I did this on my 550 in the UK, I was quoted 2,800GBP (Approx 5,000 of your american pesos) for the official Ferrari repair which was a new bumper spoiler assembly and paint.

A quality independent too it to their fibreglass shop and rebuilt the spoiler end for around 700GBP including paint and fitting (1200USD).
Hope you're joking - your **** up not his/hers - take some responsibility, man.

It has happen twice to me. The first time I had my son use shoe polish on it. After the second accident, I had my mechanic get it repair. My cost was only a few hundred dollars. I have since touch it again. My crack is very small and not growing.

    Drive only 12 cylinders

The advice you're getting is good. No need to replace the entire spoiler and pay Ferrari's exorbitant prices. A decent body shop can rebuild it easily and you won't notice the difference. Depending up the damage it will cost anywhere between 3-400 or up to $1500.

    Been there, done that. :)

During the FOC Utah trip into Yellowstone in September 04, I was following a Carrera GT during a U-turn. He went into the pullout area with no problem-- even with 3" of ground clearance. I turned, watching like a hawk and... SMASH!!! It sounded like I'd dropped the front end on a rock the size of a football. Behind me, the Carrera owner's wife in her 360 made it around fine. The damage to mine was caused by the 550 front end being so far longer from the wheels-- than either the GT or the 360.

Damage: The entire area around the right brake vent was smashed open, hideously exposing fiberglass threads.
Chin injuries were a theme for the day:

Later, Ferrari Denver used color-matching tape to keep the pieces from falling off when I took it to their invitational track event at PPIR in Colorado Springs.

The cost of replacing the entire front bumper unit from Ferrari: $3,000 or so. Cost of going to good body shop in Laramie and having them fix it: $1,100. I chose the later and ate the repair bill, rather than start my insurance clock ticking. If I'd run the claim into State Farm, my 6-month premiums would have gone up $50/year. Not much. But the next claim I filed would drive it up $300/year; and the next, I think, $700/year. Almost double. I"ve got a cracked windshield that will be my first insurance claim (for $3,300 plus install). I didn't use my insurance on the air dam because I want to see if this is going to be a regular problem (breaking the airdam on wild roads in Wyoming) I've missed disaster on speed bumps and have also run the air dam into a curb..slowly. That didn't even chip the paint! The bumper unit weighs 50lbs and is solid as a rock.

PS: Rather than sue the National Park Service for not ensuring that their gravel turnouts can accomodate 200mph GT cars, I'm just getting even with that road turnout! In my upcoming novel, THE EDGE OF HEAVEN, I blow up Yellowstone in a very novel way to set off the caldera. And there's this little turnout on the Colter Bay Road where something REALLY nasty happens at 3-5,000fps! :)

I am somewhat disappointed in some of the responses...but I certainly understand. Yes Ferrari has made an inferior product by building a car you can't park against any elevated tire guard which is quite common in our area...and those cross ties were quite large and the area was poorly lit and this was a public place...and I didnt mean much by saying I wanted to sue...but I was angry andi t was difficult to see the cross ties since they were not painted nor lit...but thanks guys for all of the advice...no I won't pay 2800 for a new bumper/spoiler nor would I have it repainted...I have found a local body shop and they will fix it in a few days. Thanks for all the responses and sorry if I offended anyone about saying that I was thinking about suing...not sure I was asking for any advice or any response for that, but for those of you who have given me suggestions on how to repair my spoiler, many sincere thanks.

This Ferrari Chat Room is getting to be quite belligerent and I for one will stay away for a while longer. Thanks again.

I find it interesting in that you regard the product as inferior due to its ground clearance. Its electrical systems maybe, but ground clearance?
I have another car with a spoiler as my daily drive and it also smacks just about every concrete stop also if I pull up to far. Is it also inferior? I find your logic flawed in that you mthinking what you purchased should conform and function in harmony with your external surroundings. Maybe you need a Hummer.

Yeah, but what'll he drive?? :D

Coachi, you screwed up. I have too, lots of us have. Sorry if some guys were amazed that you wanted to sue. It isn't the car. Nor is it Goodyears fault when you fly off the road drunk in a Bronco.

    Glad it is getting fixed.

I'll be quiet now before I wake Art and Frank. :p
