I recently purchased a 2002 360 spider and was told by the dealership that I would need a major service in about a year. It willcost about 7K at the dealership. I was speaking to another 360 owner last week who said that's rubbish since it's much easier to change the belts on 360's--the engine doesn't need to be removed. He said it should cost about $1200. Which is true--or is it somewhere in the middle?

Lots of info on this in the search engine.
In short a major service is a lot more than just belts and if you budgeted $1200 for it you are in for a major shock.

it depends on what's involved in the major service. cauley ferrari in detroit quoted me $1,600 two years ago for the timing and accessory belts but the final bill came to around $7300 when it was all said and done (clutch replacement, worn brake pads, all fluid changes and a few others "might as well" factors once they get into the engine). good luck to you.

Our basic pricing for the following is, that should put you in a good ball park figure.

    Timing belts service $1,500
    Major service $3,500

Since the 348 costs around $5k for the major service (at an independant shop) and the 360 is supposedly MUCH cheaper to service I would say $3500 is a safe bet. $7k, no way!

My take is: if you get a bill for $3500, smile and assume someone loves you. On the other hand, if you get a bill for $7K and you tell others who have been through the same process with their 355s, 360s, or CSs, don't be suprised if they just nod, yup. Plan to receive a jaw dropping bill -- they ALWAYS find expensive things to replace, plan for $7K, and then drink champagne if you have money left over.

Best free advice you're likely to get! You'll never be as happy as the day you get out of the shop much less than you expected. go in expecting a bottom end price, you can only be upset.

Routine ;) major service on a 360-- oil change/filter; tranny fluid change; brake fluid flush; timing belts, air filters/pollen filter; coolant flush; general inspection/re-torqueing of suspension bits, etc -- dealer charge should be ~$3200-$3600.

Plan on around 4,500-5,000 and that's including misc stuff that may need to be done also.

Major service and timing belt+external belt service are not always done at the same time and are separate service items. So you can have a major or minor service +- belt service. On my 575 I just had an oil change + belt service.
