Quick canvassing of opinions here - will a 355 fit in a garage 8ft wide? I know the car is circa 6.2ft wide, do you think that will leave enough room to open the doors enough to get out??

    Cheers
    Eric

Cheers Joe, I was thinking a nice bit of foam / quality bit of carpet might come in to play somewhere along the line!

Will keep you in mind re 'the man who can' with top quality flooring!

    Cheers mate!

I do indeed have a pretty standard and therefore fairly tight garage. I forget what the internal measurement is but the door opening is 83-84 inches wide.

Getting in and out of the car is a bit tricky, but is easier with the window wound down. Carpet on the wall is a must. I put the car roughly in the middle of the garage as pushing it over to one side just makes it tougher to get out.

I'll measure the internal width later and let you know what it is.

    Ric.

What I did before I got my 355 was to measure the width of the entrance and then found out the width of the car and also measure the width of the garage interior. I was lucky as my garage is a new extension and therefore not a 'standard' size. In your case it may be a good idea to enlist the services of a nearby f-chatter to gauge the opening with their car.

My garage is 84 inches at the opening and 95½ inside.
The opening isn't really the problem as I have a mirror positioned at the far end of the garage so I can guage where my passenger side is

I can't get out of driver's side at all due to buttress in garage. Can only get out of passenger side if I climb across, wind the window down then turn around inside car to face backwards.

The door opens just(and I mean just) wide enough to get my shin out. Then I have to hop out of it on one leg until I'm sufficiently far enough out of the door to be able to put my other foot down.

It's a real pain in the ass but definitely worth it. A 360 is definitely out of the question. I would say if your garage is any narrower than mine then you're going to have to go for the Spider!

Why not make a mocked up garage out of cardboard boxes and see if you can borrow a 355 to see if it fits (or try it at the next drive out)

Not a bad idea - I already have the 355, so shouldn't need to borrow another!! (although would gladly do so if someone wants to offer....), its the garage which is going to be new - haven't had a chance to take the motor there to check it out, was trying to get some advance info on chances of it going in - all will become clear this weekend..

    Cheers chaps

I was going to post the same thread today.

Just bought a house with a garage. Trouble is garage has been converted into a room. It can go back into a garage IF my 355 spider fits...

Garage doors are 78" and the narrowist interior width is 86"
I believe car width is 74.8 " (is that outer mirror width's?)
Anyone know width with mirrors folded back?

What do you think, because of the wide sills to get in & out, is it worth taking the garage apart?

    cheers
    simon

My internal garage width is 103.5", so Graham leads the 'whos got the narrowest garage' competition so far...

Holy living crap! You do that every time? Respect! Sitting here trying to visualise it, I came to the conclusion you must work in the circus. Get someone to video you, send it in to 'you've been framed' then put the money towards widening the entrance.

I have a 3 car garage so I can't help you with measurements.

But did you ever think about this?

Just buy a Spider and problem solved! Lift yourself & don't open the doors...

As your garage/room is nearly a foot narrower than mine then I'd say unless you're Terminator2 you've as much chance of getting out of it as I have of winning Miss Biggleswade 2004
