Can someone tell me when the belt of a 348 must be replaced, and what the costs are. Some tell that it needs to be replaced every 40k km or 25K miles, some say every 3 years unless the km or miles ... Please some good advice
Been discussed here to death. It is recommended every 5 years (most won't reach the mileage recommendation before the 5 years which is something like every 30,000 miles. Use a search of 348 major service to find out more. BT
The 348 Owner's Manual actually says to "replace the timing belt" every 24 months." It also says "take the engine out of the car to perform this operation." That said, do it every 4-5 years.
My 1990 owners manual says 52,500 miles. No mention of years. So somebody's lying. Or changing their mind a lot. So...you have your choice: Once a year Once every two years Once every 3 years Once every 4 or 5 years Once every 52,500 miles Once every time you change your underwear. For what it's worth, mine went 13 years on the original belt.
I think this the single most argued thing in the history of the 348 (or the tailight design). People that are very conservative will say 3 years or 15k-30K miles People that less conservative but not chance takers will say 5 years or 30k miles People that are more chance takers will say 7 years or 30k miles... And people that think all this is a bunch of bologna will say 'don't worry about time, between 30k-50k miles' This is my analysis of the 1000's of posts I have read on this subject.... What do you all think....does this sound like a fair analysis...Maybe we can finally answer this question once and for all...
My cam belt change will be every 2yrs inc water pump tensioners cam seal's and shims, the rest of the service items will be acceserble with the engine in situ,it's my car and i'll service the belt when i want, not when im advised to.
dont do it at all! its good for 200,000 miles . its all hype and a money making scheme that you need to change it as much as all the obsessive compulsives here.... please let us know when you get to the "half way" point, after you have reached 100k with no belt change .
Hey Patriek These guys are busting your balls because you didn't do a seach of the archives. This subject as been beaten to death, burried, dug up, and beaten again. There is loads of reading on the subject.
My friend, you are incorrect to refute me! You are correct that the Technical Manual on page N5 gives the symbol "R" at 52,500. I misspoke before, but what I said is true according to the 348 Wokshop Manual. On page B57 of the 348 Workshop Manual, it says: "Replace the belts after 35,00-45,00 km. Take the engine out of the car in order to perform this operation." As we know, 35,000-45,000 km equals 21,747-27,961 miles. HOWEVER, on page N6 of the 348 Wokshop Manual, the maintenance schedule is given. Here's what it says: "Change alternator and ir conditioning compressor belts." Then it says "every 24 months." It also indicates that this should be done at 40,000 km. It says the same thing for the timing belt. "Change the timing belt," it says. Then it says "every 24 months" or 40,000 km. I will post these pages shortly to prove it to the skeptics!
Years seems to be the debate more then the miles...So lets ALL post how many years we have on our belts since they were changed...If they were just changed...then how many years you waited... Me - 6 years, last change was in 99' never changed before that, car was purchased in 91'
