Well the upholsterer was just here and we can't figure out how to get the rear parcel shelf out. I have new material to get it recovered but how and where are these pieces fastened?

If someone has had these apart and can tell me, or better yet show me with pictures how to get these pieces out, it would be much appreciated.

    Best!

To remove the rear shelf pieces, you need to access the nuts from engine compartment.

    1. Remove fuel hose clamps cross tube connecting the two tanks to move it out of the way. There are three of them. Then, remove the heat shield to access the two nuts holding pannel D.

    2. There's one nut to remove piece A.

    3. The nuts for panel B and C are on the right and left sides above the wheel wells. You do not need to remove the windows the remove these. You will need to remove the seatbelt bolts.

    4. To remove panel E, the windows have to come out as this piece is rivetted to window frame.

On the engine right side, you will need to remove the air intake. On the engine left side, you may need to move the ignition coils. Also, there are fuel hoses that get in the way on both sides.

This job is a PITA, but it's doable. Let me know if you need more details.

Thanks Carmine, excellent post! Labelled and everything!!!

It sure is more than I bargained for, but not more than I can handle.
I'd say... "there goes my evening!".

Thanks again, especially for the pictures!

Are you recovering with original Ferrari material ? If you are , where did you get it and was it expensive ? My 328 like many others could do with new material but the price for the original stuff I have seen is outrageous.

Leather was an upgrade option, both my cars have black..

If I was going to the trouble I'd go back with that.

Even my car with blue carpeting used black leather there....

I got it from Re-Originals and they sell it my the meter. I don't have the bill handy but I think it was $140 for a piece 1M X 1.4M, not 'free', but OK I'd say. Obviously I'm not doing the whole headliner with only that much though.

    Try here...http://www.reoriginals.com/

    OK, I'm stuck!

I didn't want to start anything I can't finish so I focused on the task I thought would be most difficult, and that's where I'm stuck.

I can see how I would get the fuel lines off.
I can see how I would then get the heat shield off (though I haven't actually done it yet) and subsequently get at the bolts for pieces A, B and C.

So, I removed the coil packs on the drivers' side (or whatever they were) and thought I would be able to reach the bolts for panel C, the one I fear the most, but I didn't feel anything. When I try to lift panel C from inside the car it would seem to be fastened closer to the side window, in a much more comprehensive way, yet when I see your underneath picture there's only one bolt shown. When you said I would reach those bolts "over the wheelwell" did you mean I needed to remove the rear tire and wheelwell housing and get at it from in there? 'Cause I can't feel any bolts for panel C from the engine compartment.

For clarification, I am not removing panel E or F.

    Thanks again!
    Wes

Wes - Here is a good shot of my side window out - You can see where the rivets holes are & what they are holding down - I do think you will need to remove the side windows to remove E & C. It looks like one hole holds in E and 3 more for C. Also, here is my thread with lots of pics of interior re-dye & panel re-covering with leather :

Carmine, do you concur with the assertion that the side windows must come out to remove the B & C panels?

I think Jerry is right. In the GTB, the panel is not riveted. See pict below. From this picture, you get an idea where the nut should be, if you have one. There's a way to find out. Remove A, the seatbelt bolts, and any nuts (if any) from the engine compartment. If B and C are not riveted, the panels should lift right up.

Let us know how you make out.

    Thanks for responding, Carmine.

I don't know if I'm going to tackle this job at this time, then. I've had the car off the road for a week now waiting for humidity to go down so I can finish recoloring the leather. I wanted to do the shelf at the same time. I don't wanna keep the car off the road any longer. My summer's half over and it rained the first half, so I'm gonna see about perhaps doing this job a bit later. I might still try and slip it in, but we'll see. But I will definately keep you informed by way of this thread.

Thanks again, I'll be in touch.

Wes, when you find the time, I think you can knock down the shelf in a day or a weekend.

Are you taking part D out? If not, I am not sure you need to remove the heat shield in the engine. Just need to remove the window & the seat belt bolts (Make sure to take pictures & note exactly how the seat belt bolts go).

The hardest part for me was getting the windows back in!

Good luck - It was nice speaking with you on the phone - Give me a call if you ever run into trouble.

Yes, I was also planning to do panel D as well, but I can't see how it would take a whole day. I'm thinking an evening?

I'll get a window guy to come by and pop out the side glass.
I'll then go after those pesky side rivets.
    Remove the Fuel line fasteners.
Remove the heat shield. (Is this where it takes all the time?)
Undo the bolts behind where the shield was. (Is this where?)
Undo the seat belt bolts, and I'm done, no?

So ideally if I would do this on a Monday night, upholsterer takes Tuesday & Wednesday, I could have it back together Wednesday night, Thursday on the outside. No?

    Best!

Hi Wes - I was assuming you were doing the upholstry work also, so that is where I had a little more time budgeted. Look forward to seeing new pics of the interior. :)
