Strange question, I know, but here goes. I have a 1985 308 that just came back from the body shop. In order to paint the right rear 1/4 panel, the antena was removed. When this was done, the plastic/rubber "molding" that covers the seam between the antena and the body was pretty much destroyed. I called T.Rutlands and was told that the part comes with the antena which is no longer available.

Does anyone know where I can get that "molding" or what I can use in it's place? The car looks perfect, with that ever so small exception. Not sure, but that piece may prevent water from getting in between the antena and body.

Gil, there was a similar thread some months ago. I believe, the rubber thingy on the 328 is a little bit different, but maybe it works. Here's the link to the old thread.

My 328 has exactly the same problem, I think this is very common. I would like to buy just this piece also, but unfortunately the link above doesn't give any info. I have a few pieces of neoprene rubber in a few thicknesses, so I may have a go at making one, The problem is the real part has a flange around the outsiide that I won't be able to reproduce. Anyone found a solution ?

    Paul,

what info did you expect ? If T.Rutlands don't have the single part, probably noone has it.
What I tried to tell was, that one possibility may be shopping around for a cheap stock Bosch antenna. Especially on the 328 the base gasket looks very similar to many aftermarket Bosch antennas. Unfortunately the older pictures got lost with the big server crash on Ferrarichat some weeks ago.
Sorry, that I couldn't provide a parts no. or a supplier, but these older cars sometimes demand the biggest efforts regarding the smallest bits.

Greetings to the Ile de France, where my car has spent most of its first 25 years.

    Best Regards from Germany

    Martin

I spoke with T. Rutlands who said you have to buy the entire antenna and the part comes with the antenna, however, the antenna is no longer available. I confirmed this with Lyle Tanner, who added that Ferrari will be making an antenna for the 308/328 line and will sell for $900.00, yes I said NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS.

    Ouch.

Absurd. The $15 Harada I put in is visually indestinguishable from the original Bosch unit. Back when I was doing concours, I never lost even a portion of a point for it... there was no way to tell it wasn't original without taking out the trunk liner on that side.

For just the gasket part, if you can figure out exactly what it's made of (neoprene?), you can google search for a hobby page on home casting/molding so you can make your own --- and maybe a dozen or so spares for other listers. :p

Can you post a pix of your antenna's base? If it looks like my antenna, I can make a mold from my base & cast them out of black polurethane rubber. Much tougher than neoprene, etc.

Won't be cheap tho, probably $25 or so each, depending on how fusy the mold is to make. If the Harada antenna looks the same i'd go for it. Often you can just use the new antenna's hardware with your current antenna.

If you want to make your own, figure to spend about $25-$30 for the 2-part RTV to make the mold, and $30 to $40 for the 2-part polyurethane kit. Mold will take you 4 to 6 hours to make spread over a couple of evenings, then you can turn out a part every 1/2 hour or so.

Just so everyone knows, I contacted Verell and he agreed to make the bases for our antennas, provided we can get at least 10 responses. considering what these little gaskets do ie;keep water out of the ECU.. I believe this will be a good route to go...please post up.

I will take a photo, and post soon...

Not sure if you are following Verell, but we have 3 takers so far...whoo hoo!!!..I wanted to follow up on the water issue..it's not necessarily the rain but also simple washing.... Wanna keep the ECU area dry!
Also since my antenna works well a new "washer" from Verell will allow me to keep her original..

    Hi Verell,

Sign me up for one also if it fits a 328! I have a set of original 328 antenna mounting "bits" courtesy of a fellow FC person I would certainly lend you for dimensions. I also have two NOS Autojets but the Bosch factory mounting harware is slightly different from the Ferrari-specific black "trapezoidal" nut and bezel. Let me know if you'd like me mail these out.

Wonderful if you can manufacture these. I tried very hard to match OEM without success. Oh, and I understand Ferrari UK is selling a complete antenna for 328 for about L$160 ($320?) that is very similar to the original.

    Best,

    Carl

I'm monitoring. I said 10 or so counting on someone loaning me a good condition exact part to use as a pattern to make a mold. If I have to machine a pattern, then either the quantity or price will have to increase.

Lets start with posting pictures & geting agreement on what the OEM part looks like.

Thanks Mike, for the PM. Here's a pic of the Bosch Autojet ll on my '86 328. As you can see, the plastic to paint gasket is history. -1/4 point at concours...

I'm in if all our gasket needs match. Do all 328s have the Autojet ll?

I just noticed that my antenna base doesn't appear to match the one posted by Mick A. I do have an Autojet ll, its clearly marked, so I'm wondering if there were variations?

There may be a difference between the Autojet 2 and the Autojet II. The ones being sold by FerrariUK are the Autojet 2, which is also the one I have new in the box. I don't have a 328 so can't tell which exact model was originally installed....
