All, We just finished producing a new batch of our 308 Euro bumper Look kits. The kit replaces the stock shocks with powder coated aluminum tubes. These pull the front bumper as far back as can be without permanently modifying the bumper or the car itself. It gets you most of the Euro look without replacing the bumper or the front grill with expensive Euro pieces. Installation takes about an hour. It makes a huge difference on the appearance of the car. You could drill the struts and push them in but our solution preserves your original shocks and you just need a socket wrench. You also save over 4lbs at the front. Detailed installation instructions are included. I've attached a few photos here of the comparison between 308 bumpers in their full extended glory and some shots of them installed on my black 308. We've been selling these for years at $125 for the pair. Through Tuesday, we've put them on sale for $100. After, Tuesday they will be $130 a pair. You can find them on the MAcarbon website. Navigate from Ferrari Carbon->308/328 Begining next week, you'll also be able to get them from Daniel at Recambi and Nick at Forza Ferrari. Nick runs them on his own car. If you have any questions, feel free to PM or email us. 308-newbie... you should be able to place a order through the web. But give us a call on Monday and we'll get you out a set. We deal with Canadian cusomers all the time. FedEx International Ground is pretty reasonable. For the rear, ther are some steps you can take. There is a 2" spacer that can be taken out. One you have that out, you have to cut threads into the bumper studs. Then its a fun(not!) job getting the bumper back on with about 3/4 of an inch between the bumper and the sheet metal in which to fit your wrench and tighten the nuts. Mike, your will go out Monday. Thanks for the order!
so John it is possible to push in the rear? I have a 85qv just do what you told me and its done? everyone loves my front bumper they think its a euro
The rear struts are mounted in the trunk under a bunch of rivits. I don't recommend trying to remove them. I tried.... not worth it. But pull out that spacer and the difference will still be pretty dramatic.
please advise shipping cost to Canada, preference is via USPS as we have 3 more months of winter here...
Please PM me your address and I'll work up a quote. FedEx is pretty reasonable and I've had bad experiences with USPS going into Canada. As for the GT4 front, I'll bet they work but will have to consult the parts book. The GTS\GTB uses the same strut on both ends... its just tough to get to the rears. So maybe the GT4 is the same?
This is something that I thought about doing for a couple of years now- I just ordered a pair too ! ** I haven't even looked at how they mount, what is required to remove the old shocks ? Remove the grill etc ? or can you just reach in and unbolt them ?
we've had a great response to the bumper promotion. we're over ten sets... i guess its time to make some more! we include full instructions with the kit but ou do have to remove the grill and we recommend removing the headlight surrounds. total of about twelve screws.depending on how many grill screws you have left!
John,Ilooked at what you told me about the back spacer,I see that its do able but once the spacer is gone and its time to bolt up the bumper there is a grill above the center of the bumper and it looks as though you have to remove it is this what you see too!
I've been wanting to do this for a long time now. Placed my order and can't wait to install them. Will
Will, thanks for the order. joe, please place an order through our website, www.macarbon.com, or give us a call on Monday. 650 520 4822. if I can make it into the shop tonight or tomorrow, I'll take a pic of my rear bumper. that small grill will nit be an issue. you do need to cut threads into those bumper studs though.
John, you mean when the spacer is gone the bolts won't have enough threads to tighten the nuts for the bumper once the 2" are gone,is that what I need to do,If you could please show pic's and does the screen get taken off or does it tuck inside the bumper, thank you for your time John.....................Michael
There’s an easy way to fix this problem. Purchase 4 hollow spacers of the appropriate size from a hardware store. After you put the bumper back on, place one on each stud to fill in the unthreaded area. Then apply the bolts.
The rear bumper studs do not have any threads inside that 2" aluminum spacer. So you have to cut the threads into the stud using a 10mm die. Otherwise, you can't put back the bumper. But its not difficult. You can use a Home Depot die and die holder (forgot the official name!T-Bar?). I also used some oil as a little 'lube'. Took about 5-10 minutes per stud. I took a few photos of my car at MAcarbon world headquarters tonight. (Anyone is welcome to stop by.. the location is on our Contact page on the website). Hopefully you can tell what I'm talkign about. The real challenge for me was getting the the rear bumper back on. There was 0 space between the bumper and the rear muffler pan. And the reason for that is that my rear shocks had been....... compressed and welded many years before. You can see the weld in the photo. It was when going through my paperwork that I saw what the previous owner had paid for the work (front and rear) that I came up with the idea to replace the original struts. And in case you are wondering....all the photos above are taken with the tubes we are selling. So you probably will not get your rear bumper in as far as mine is but there is not much else you can do. Getting to the mounting point of rear shocks to swap them or drill them is much easier said than done. So for the rear, I would just leave it at removing the spacer. Its a great project for next weekend after the struts arrive - a nose job and butt lipo for your 308 in one afternoon. As for the amount of retraction on the front bumper, I'd have to check. I think its about 2". However, it is the farthest in you can get the stock bumper without modifying it or the car. With our tubes, one of the studs is a hairs width away from touching one of the front frame members. If you want to shorten the studs or cut the structure, then you could pull it in farther. Howver, that sort of defeats the 'easy' to do and 'reversable' aspects of the product. Another key aspect to the kit is that you don't have to replace the front grill. I'd love to switch to a true Euro bumper but the cost of a Euro grill is a bit high. And we even have a Euro bumper in house to mold! One of these days, we'll get around to making those as well. I guess you could buy some spacers but I found cutting the threads was pretty easy. I think it would also be easier to find a 10mm die than to find the correct spacer. A bonus is that running the die over all of the threads (front and rear) makes it easier to put the new lock nuts on. (Included in the kit!)
