I think it used a black and white temporary paper plate "17179 L4", but cannot find a photo to confirm. Boudewijn?

    Best wishes, Kare

There's a still from British Pathe here. Blow it up and you can just make out the registration number as Kare and El Wayne posted that's on the model of the car above. Very sadly, Ricardo Rodriguez was to lose his life only days later, aged just 20. Roger Penske, as well as the Rodriguez brothers, was very successful racing this GTO, now owned by Ralph Lauren.

Looks like "17179 L1" to me really, amazingly the same type of transfer plates are still being used. Was not long ago I photographed a new Volvo using these in Helsinki.

But the "elbow" used in the "4" of temp plates is very very thin, so need a better pic to be sure, really.

It's Maurice Trintignant with a Cooper-Maserati in 1960. In the USA but where?

    No problem

That image says that it was taken on "Highway I-15 heading south coming out of Riverside" on the way to the track. The I-15 passes far to the west of riverside and the raceway and no one would take the 15 south on the way to the track. The old Riverside International Raceway was located just off of Route 60, where the Moreno Valley Mall and surrounding neighborhood are today. This is Trintignant headed east along a stretch of Route 60 where the 60 and I-215 merge temporarily today. Of course,it was just Route 60 in 1960 because the I-215 did not yet exist.

In fact, these look like the same hills seen in the photo. They run along the north side of the 60 on the way east to the site of the old raceway.

If so , that would be the long lost " Ferrari of Moctezuma " # 0161EL Inter Export Lungo
driven by Alberto Ascari to 2nd place in the 2nd Carrera Panamericana 1951

one thing is for sure , the guy is P. Aguilar , 1952 Panamericana Ferrari owner & driver

would someone please post the pic to this forum
    for future reference

Thanks for the input El Wayne
but Pablo Aguilar's son has told me his father only Ferrari he ever owned was 0171EL Inter Coupe Vignale , the winner of the 2nd Carrera driven by Luigi Chinetti & Taruffi
which has been lost and unseen ever since the 50's ...

none the less he isn't sure the car in the pic is the same or even a Ferrari for that matter

I just re-read my notes and found out that 0161EL is well and safe at Zambrano's collection
    my bad

I hate to make conclusive statements but, for me, the car in the picture is 340 America s/n 0196A with the Vignale coupe body from Sparken's Aston Martin. 0196A must have spent some time south of the border before coming to Southern California.

What are the best sources to find old photo's from Le Mans 1951, the best would be colour photo's? Are there sources or know photographers that might be a help?
Or is there for example a French magazin where I can ask this question?
