Looks like we'll be seeing that big smile from Spiderman at the end of this one unless something breaks on his car...

P.S. RB just did Tagliani to move into 16th...I was hoping for a Top 10 today so a little disappointed, but it is fun to watch him race and still see the helmet in a cockpit.

I don't think I'm gonna get used to those cars.

Can we even call this "open wheel racing", anymore?

Do these remind anyone else of a 32 ford bucket "hot rod"? ;)
    (open front wheels, closed rear)

Agree. Some kind of weird combo of ALMS cars with open cockpits. Strange looking.

Yep, I want to like them but seeing the footage of previous years makes it difficult. :(

Decent race. Nothing to write home about though. At least RB got a lot of seat time in the car and finished...

Look forward to the real terrain road courses.

    Later guys,

I thought they were all going to have their own aero packages this year.

So why do they all look like somebody hung a Countach on the back? ;)

great to see Helio win, it's been a long time.

the new cars are goofy looking, and it was Penske/Ganassi/Andretti up front; neither of those are good signs IMO.

but, at least IndyCar is back, with a nice field and multiple engine manufacturers; been a while since we've seen that!

To me they look like a Plymouth Prowler and some kid replaced the front bumper with a wing.

I'm having a hard time deciding which is uglier (or, prettier depending on your personal outlook): the new F-1 cars or the new Indy cars.

+1 on the Countach rear end comment. The rear wheel fairings remind me of those found on orange grove tractors. Kinda goofy but maybe would look better with black paint. Hi Simon!

the funny thing is the new F1 cars look good in motion; the IndyCars don't.

and I agree painting the rear "bumpers" would help, but the sidepods look bad too.

Great call on the in motion thing. The F1 cars at least look OK (at best) in motion, but the Indy cars look fugly in motion.

Then again, I didn't like the Banglized arses of the BMW street cars and then everyone copied them. (Note: I still hate them, but they were cutting edge).

Not sure if these cars are cutting edge or not, but they are certainly ugly.

While I do agree that the cars aren't much to look at this year, aero kits next year are already under development by all three manufacturers as well as an outside company (not named) for next year. It can't come soon enough.

Like a lot of new formulas when they first appear,
the new generation Indy Cars will take some getting
    used to.

Even on TV it was evident they were running at
St. Pete with a lot of drag, looked darty
in the turns and much of the outcome came
down to fuel and tire management rather than
    letting them go for it.

Time will tell but obviously how these cars look
and perform at Indy will be the real test. If the
    500 becomes a fuel economy run/tire management
exercise, there are going to be a lot of disapponted
    fans.

Is it too much to ask for a certain FChat member to give us a run-down on what the new cars were like from his viewpoint Sunday?

Please, pretty please with a super-charger on top?

I thought it was a good race and I love the look of the new cars aswell as the sound of those turbo engines.
