I can vouch for this. My CS has "aged" Corsa System tires and I have virtually no grip (close to zero cold and not much when warm). Time for new RE-11s!
I tried to order the RE-11s tonight from Tire Rack, and it looks like they may be out. I will be going with 235 in fronts and 285 in the rears. Thanks to Trev and 430GT for the great help and explanations.
ah crap...they were out all fall, and then I procrastinated since I was considering trading the CS and now they are out again...sheesh. Maybe we should stop talking about them on here
They did when I was looking (albeit a nationwide back order). It was about $1-200 cheaper for a set of 4 from what I can remember vs mpss.
Long story...short version is they already sold it to someone else :-( I'm discouraged but haven't given up.
Still listed, guess they have not pulled the adds yet. Like I said, every time you think the last cool car is sold, another pops up. The Lord wants you to indeed have a Scud, just not that one. I won't make the same mistake and will let you know when I find another.
My mistake, the somewhat similar ratings for the S04 Pole Position and RE11 were from the Bridgestone website not Tirerack. My point was that for the rest of us weekend, non track drivers the S04 Pole Position would probably serve as well as the RE11 and is readily in stock.
(FWIW: This might help someone) I was getting tires for my Sienna from these guys and asked them about the RE11s. They told me they have 2 sets in the 360 OEM sizes (just in case someone is looking?). I am not connected with them at all. Service Specialists (ask for Bear) 760-522-2338 (California - I think they will ship as needed)
Just purchased a full set of RE-11's last night at tire rack and was told they are back in stock - was told they had a healthy stock, but anyone interested in them doesn't want to wait too long.
In such case, any medium or low grip tire should be fine for weekend drives, 55 mph drives, stop and go traffic, expos, car shows, cars and coffee, a tire would not make much of a difference. I don't give up grip. I want the most sticky tire out there even for street driving. On an emergency maneuver to avoid an accident, I want to have the best tires. If my grippy tires can stop the cars several feet shorter, that might be the difference between avoiding an accident or writing off my car (or worse getting injured). I would not use the S04 on any of my cars, there are plenty of better tires in case RE11 are not available.
I am interested in this combo but can't find the 295/35/19 PSS listed among the sizes for this tire. I find a 295 in a 30 profile but not 35.
For the F430 and 360CS on stock wheels the Pilot Super Sport is available in 235/35R19 and 295/35R19. For the 16M and Scuderia on stock wheels, 245/35R19 and 295/35R19. The 295/35R19 is a new size for 2012. Do not use the 295/30R19, it is too short to support the loads from the rear axle.
Interesting. So, to ask a "new" question of you on this: Which do you recommend for a CS on stock wheels: MPSS in 235/35 and 295/35 RE-11 in 235/35 and 285/35 Price independant (they are essentially the same order of magnitude for me). Thanks!
MPSS have wide open channels on their tread, the RE11 puts more rubber to the ground given a certain width. I strongly prefer the RE11, but I have both tires currently. The MPSS is great if rain is a factor, because it sticks in the rain so well, but on dry conditions the RE11 is noticeable better. MPSS is a quiet tire too, and softer than the RE11. The RE11 rides stiff, not a loud tire, but not as quite as the MPSS. For me RE11. I bought the MPSS to try them and I like them a lot, but I like RE11 even more. You can't go wrong with either one, but know they are among the best tires available that fit the F430, 360CS, and Scuderia. They also surpass the performance of any other tire Ferrari have used in these three cars, including the Pirelli Corsa System which is a race compound tire (heat cycle sensitive) not a full street tire. Ferrari is using MPSS in the super powered 599 GTO, this says a lot. I'm recommending friends with Porsche Carrera GT to switch to MPSS from PS2, and 4 of them have reported a massive improvement. RE11.
Thank you F430GT. This is very useful info. I have a set of 19" HRE wheels with a 1 inch wider rim width (8 1/2 front; 11 rear). I think the 35 profile 235s and 295s would be perfect, just 1% 'longer.'
Use the 245/35R19 front, helps reduce understeer and you already have a good wide wheel (8.5"), this 245 is a little too wide for the 7.5" wheels in the 360CS and F430, but it fits just right on the Scuderia/16M 8" wheel, and even better on a custom 8.5" wheel.
BTW I tried to order the Michelin PSS in 295/35/19 and was told that they won't be available for sale in the US until April. Go figure.
The consensus is that the RE-11s stick better in the dry; The MPSS stick better in the wet The RE-11 sidewall is a bit stiffer, giving a stiffer ride. But the MPSS 295/35 is evidently not available until April.
