Hmmm..... Nobody's interested? If it helps, my car will not have the Corsa tires, so you get 1 sec advantage to begin with. I am as curious to find out as anybody how those cars really compare.
Really, not even one? I am the only 14 year old? Disappointing. Got it. I understand now. Here, we have mature individuals who spend whole days and untold hours TALKING about it. That's what happens when you grow up.
We're not interested because it doesn't matter. I only care about how a car makes me feel. I don't care if the McLaren F1 can beat it or a Veyron can beat it or whatever can beat it. It's how it makes me feel when I drive it that matters. A few tenths of a second mean nothing to me. It's like saying a 250 GTO is an obsolete waste of metal because a Camry probably could out handle it today. Nobody cares.
I understand you do not care. Those comments are not directed at you. I can see perfectly well how Italia would fit some people's needs and give them the right thrill. Some people, on the other hand, clearly care about lap times, since the discussions keep popping up. I believe that ferrari is blatantly cheating with their press cars, but I don't know for sure. So here's the opportunity to shut me up.
Well, you ask if nobody is interested so I answered as nobody. Nobody is interested because it proves nothing. Now, when one gets to Las Vegas, I intend to drive it. I'm rather curious if the feeling is there or it rides like a cadillac.
If my upcoming 458 was coming to the US I'd let you take it to the track just so we could all just put it to bed. NOT because I would be interested in the outcome of lap times. But I would just give anything for this endless debate to stop. I would also be interested to compare the cars for myself. I love sportscars and love the MP4 too. Just can't ever see myself buying one but how can that not be OK? We all have our tastes. The point of a laptime seems lost on me - I am buying the 458 because it is more than fast enough and because it looks drop-dead gorgeous. And I am not the only one. This seems a principal difference between the McLaren fans and the Ferrari fans (not a judgement, just a conclusion after reading a million posts). One camp seems to think there can only be one winner, and one camp seems to not care about winning and just buys their favourite. Just how I see it. Onno
I just don't see these debates being started by anyone else but McLaren fans with an axe to grind. Am I wrong? Well, I do. Sick of these debates. Onno
It's pretty obvious that the two cars will satisfy different people in different ways. Both cars offer different sets of compromises. However, i am pretty convinced that one of those compromises Italia had to take was the slower on-track performance. This, in itself, is not a problem. Ferrari trying to hide the fact is. Apart from everything, I am just surprised that nobody here is really interested in seeing what their car is capable of. I would be.
I am not a McLaren fan nor do I have an axe to grind. Oh, wait, I do have one. I really, really dislike being systematically lied to.
Because of a few lap times? Don't you have bigger problems in your life? I do. Like which wine I'm going to uncork now. Happy trawling. Onno
Oh my god! Seriously you have to grow up man! Who cares which one is a little bit faster on a track? None of us will ever be able to go that fast anyway. I dove a press car at Silverstone and it was amazing. I also drove someone's car there and it was amazing too. Where they the same? Who cares.....they were both amazing and I could not tell the difference. Is that good enough for you?
I'm sure plenty of Italia owners are very interested in seeing what their cars will do. They're just not as interested in ****** waving competition.
I'm happy to get involved in this game although I do believe the 12C will be faster. I am mainly interested in the test so that I can get a test drive in the 12C! Monticello would be a good location for me.
Perfect. It's still not clear when, since I am not sure when I am gonna get my car, but it should be some time in spring. You can drive my car on the track, if I can drive yours . Oh, I forgot. Bring the CGT, too .
Little question about the 458, I noticed that the paddle shifters dont turn with the wheel, and in the 12C, the paddles turn with it. How do you feel about this feature, has it ever been an issue with the 458?
I have driven both, and for me i think its more of an asthetic and emotional thing in the 12c.i think there is little practical difference, maybe being able to push the paddle on a 12c would help with practice, but i would be happy with either, far better than the buttons on a 911
I think the fixed (Ferrari) solution is better. The steering column mounted paddles can get confusing in certain situations.
Only race you getting from an Fchatter is who can get to a Starbucks the fastest while following all road rules(and probably asking local police for an escort) Don't forget to bring along the forum hobbyist photographer who will take pics of the same car 20 dozen times for the internet.
Apparently its a lot more than that. It's the radio and stereo and wifi connection so McLaren can monitor the car and download software updates. It seems like their first supplier screwed the pooch and they have to start from scratch with someone else. Or that's what I understand.
