004's wiper has a winglet attached in the middle but not on the end. Is this something that could be easily lost when replacing the wiper element?

004 has round carello marker lights, part number on the face 17.380.717. Small stainless ring around the base and push in retainer.

    And I need a pair!

No signs of either on 004, although I wasn't present when it was stripped to see if the underside of the lid had been repainted.

Does the use of the under bonnet decals correspond in any way with the IN RODAGGIO windshield sticker?

Gee, i'm running up my posts today =)

The round carello light is smaller than the unit on our Miura, with a smaller stainless ring. However its almost identical to Ferrari 512 (same dimensions, slightly different part number).

Considering that all 1120001 through 1120004 have been repainted and these lights break easily during removal, I would be open to the argument that rectangular lights may have been original. Thoughts?

Note: 1120001 had no marker lights in all photos I can find of the car when it was red, including the 1973 magazine feature I posted earlier.

I knew there was a reason I didn't like the round lights, so I went back to my notes...
    1120002 at geneva, 1974..Square markers.

Also note seat belts not fitted yet, and no end winglet on wiper element.

Oops, I'm over my attachment limit and can't post more pics and it won't let me delete the others...

how did you come by those pics? I havent even seen them!!
I have taken her up to Knockhill circuit a couple of times. She does about 125mph in third by the end of the main straight and the rest is usually second and third gear. As the visability is bad especially with a crash helmet on, i tend to take it quite easy and allow othrs to pass me, although some hate doing so as they love the noise and the flames coming out the back on the overrun!
    I do use my cars
done about 8000km in countach in past two years
    3000miles in 328GTS since feb 2009
3000miles in Khamsin since Sept 2009
3000km in espada since march 2009
plus usual mileage in my other cars
Would love to get those pics

Yes I knew 1120002 had rectangular units to begin with, but 1120001 has always had circular units since it became the green car. Anyway, its all food for thought! And yes, I agree the rectangular units suit the car's angular shape better.

Two words should be your guiding light as far as Lamborghini's detail finish of LP400 is concerned, and they are:

This is what we are talking about... see the unit numbered "2". That unit was specifically made that way, with the end winglet.

Lore has it that the end winglet was devised to keep the wiper unit from 'floating' at speeds over 120mph. Accordingly, it was reserved for the 'jet pilots' who drove at high speed, in the wet :-0

Are the winglets removable from the wiper element? otherwise it looks like they'd be considered a consumable and replaced as a unit with the wiper cartridge/blade...But I'm thinking in modern terms when we throw away everything but the arm....

I wonder if the engineers had to explain wind tunnel testing of wiper blades to the bean counters =)

other mag. shots that i think we had not seen in the thread yet

it looked like a LP400S serie uno and was described (i think...not familiar with the language ;) ) as a 5 liter car....

    it was neither! ;)

p.s. the wing is the last model of wolf like wings (i called it the "tipo 3")

They are not removable, and are aluminum plates, cut & shaped at an angle, then folded and riveted-on, on the underside of the wiper blade holder. They simply got thrown away and replaced with modern (supposedly more efficient) units without thought for the fact that they are very special, I think.

Looking at the side profile view, you can see that they failed to mount the rear wheel arch so that the rear wheel remains 'central' to the unit. As applied, it looks like something is wrong with the positioning of the rear wheel.

i would say they took pic of its engine and i guess it was a 4 liter and not a 5 as described in the caption

now, if it is its original engine i cannot say for sure

Thats exactly why I asked: in the article they describe it as a 5-liter and since many of the car's original components were changed to create the "S" car, perhaps they put a 5-liter engine in it. Remember that after 1982, 5 liter engines were available from Lamborghini. There must be a reason that they described it as a 5 liter unit...

i always wonder if is that pantograph wiper arms were bespoke or sources from a commercial truck? i always wonder if the were ready available arms then modified to fit the CT

    Quite possible.

The winglets were definitely added at Sant Agata.
