ferrarifixer is at it again ( www.pless.com.au/mechanics.htm ) regarding cam belt changes btwn 355 v 360 some mechanics have a very distorted view (it gets them more work) and claim the 355 job is much more expensive than a 360. well.... I guess these guys would be more expert than our currently perma banned specialist http://www.verdi-ferrari.com/servicing.htm http://www.dkeng.com/servicing/fixed-price-servicing.aspx as you can see it IS more expensive on a 355, but it's definitely not the deal breaker some would have you believe. 355 owners....don't be conned!! (FF brought this up in reference to my comments in another thread to Looney about this matter) I wish we could get fixed price servicing here....lol
What about the mechanics that replace the belt with a older one off the shelf? Image Unavailable, Please Login
more....poor phil http://www.autorapide.co.uk/pages/ferservice.htm http://www.sbraceengineering.co.uk/ferrari_service.html I guess they're all wrong. None of them have the knowledge and experience that he has! *cough* You should have seen his carry on!! lol
so using DK engineering's price as an example, and doing belt changes every 5 years as is the accepted 'norm' and assuming stuff all km like most of us do, the price of 5 years of service is... 360 $8,249.00 (1649 p.a.) 355 $ 7,474.00 (1495 p.a.) 308/328 $5,702.00 (1140 p.a.) 550/575 $10,274.00 (2055 p.a.) So anyway, if any of you have ever been scared off a 355 purchase because it costs more than other Ferraris to maintain, forget it. They're ALL expensive!
Yeah, dont scared off a 355 purchase because of servicing costs................ be scared off because of the other associated issues that most 355's suffer from! (Pap runs and hides behind his 348 )
that's another story altogether!! however, most are slowly getting fixed up as time goes by. Like you'd want to make sure 308s aren't running the original valves, you'd want to make sure a 355 doesn't have the original valve guides!! then there are the 360 issues............. what are the 430s like?
Lol, yeah. Exactly correct my friend. Most certainly are! Bad headers and F1 issues most common. Cracked exhaust brackets too and a few other little niggly things here and there. Have read about some engine failures too.
Different, not as sticky...yet...more like the rubber coating on mk4 golf interiors...too "rubbery"...it was a high km well (abused??) used car. Out of warranty too. I "could" be the same stuff as used in our 355's, I have no idea. End of the day, each model has its fair share of potential issues, the Internet has a way of resounding these problems to make them see more common that they really are. This 430 I saw might be a "bad batch" who knows... Had the annual service on my 355 on Friday, it's a happy camper....
Yep Last year was a biggie so this time round it was simple, re-gassed the front bonnet struts was about all that was extra......and that's a good feeling!
Sounds like Ferrari got smart after the 308/328 and built in some pretty good failure modes. Ferrari Sales Manual Agent: "Oh your 11,000 Klm 430 has faulty headers and will cost $16K to fix, how about our new model over hear it's guaranteed to do 500Klm's per year for the next two years no problems at all." Buyer: "Where do I sign?"
