ferrari chat is a great tool for buyers! I believe in every ones best interest that we post Dealers that are not truthful in thier description of the vehicle that they are selling! PLEASE if you had bad experience please post here so other members can keep that in mind. I almost purchased a 575 that was told had no paintwork and perfect car fax history! Turns out Auto chek has collision history on the vehicle and car had been painted. Car is for sale at AUTO TOY Store in NJ

The Auto Toy Store is famous for that----been discussed here more than once... I don't think you will get many people on here throwing a dealer under the bus. So many people have different experiences at different dealers. There are only a small handful that screw everybody all the time..

I've heard of Auto Toy from Dupont Registry. I'll keep that in mind though, thank you.

I don't think it is appropriate to ask people to publicly throw mud at dealers.

If you search the archives, the information you are looking for exists, but it is not directly solicited in a thread suited for that purpose.

You might consider asking people to send you private messages about their negative experiences.

I believe that is the dealer in FL not NJ.

They have gone through many owner changes and I heard are better than they were.

Having given this some thought, I actually think it is good for people to relate their basd experiences. Just keep the posts to facts, and try not to let emotions get in the way. But, on this board, we are pretty quick to make good recommendations, so why not turn the tables a little.

Everything comes with a disclaimer and everyone knows that their own mileage may vary.

But, I'd like to hear some of these.

I'd rather have a few dealers a bit frustrated about this thread than have someone buy a car from that dealer and afterwards realize that there were $20,000 in hidden charges.

I also think it would be good if we could post things about good dealers too.

I'd like Rob Lay's guidance on whether or not we can post poor experiences...there may be an issue of his becoming liable.

Purchasing a Ferrari should be one of the greatest life experiences-right there with purchasing a home- Ferrari buyers are hard working people and at times rely on others for thier expertise in area's that they are not familiar with. When asking a Car dealer for info it should be honest and credible! With Ebays scams and cars being sold with a questionable past history it makes sense that we share info about good dealers from bad dealers!

You've got it all wrong. You're acting as though there are just a few bad dealerships, and lots of good ones.

That's not it at all. 99.98% of all car dealerships, exotic or otherwise, are out to screw you...and lies are just the first of many tactics that they will use. You don't need a list!

So you've got to look at car buying differently.

Unless you've heard countless good things about a dealership, you can pretty well bet that it is one of the typical "screw you over" shops, regardless of their big or little showroom or ad or webpage or whatever.

You'll find that it's only a precious few dealerships that people brag about time and again. Listen for them. Shop there if you want an honest deal. Forget the rest.

I do think it is important for us to share stories on dealers, regardless of experiences. If we truly particpate in this thread, it is going to be among the most valuable and important threads of all.

This information is already available. If you see a car you like, do a search here on the dealer. You'll quckly find out if they're reputable or not. My thinking is if there's smoke, there's fire when it comes to a dealer's reputation on Fchat.

The fact that Ferrari Chat members discuss Dealerships honesty and integrity we would all hope that they will keep this in mind before they screw over the next victim-their reputation is on the line and the more they do it the less likely they will sell the next one!

It depends on the content. Also, since this is a public forum, they can respond. But from a logistical perspective, it can get a little dirty I'm sure--he said, she said type content. If it gets messy, it can always be taken down I suppose.

There is very little case law on the subject.....but regardless of case law, a defense can be a huge personal and financial drain.

A lot of us will be watching this story in my industry as it may establish precedent:

He's right. The cost of defending yourself from a suit for intentional interference with business relationships or libel, even if the suit is borderline frivolous, can be substantial if the plaintiff has deep pockets and a hard nosed attitude. A private message expressing a personal opinion or relating a personal experience (as opposed to passing on someone else's story) is the more prudent way to go. I've encouraged people to send me a pm every time the name of a dealer with whom I've dealt comes up.

I'm just smart enough to know that it is far more profitable to invest my time and money in relationships with people of high integrity than to make enemies with those who have none.

You have no interest in good decent people getting screwed over as long as it is not you? I guess that makes you smart?

(sigh) Please read the above posts more carefully. I am happy to help anyone who asks. I have sent detailed, specific personal messages to four members in the past month and alluded to problems with a particular dealer on several threads. It's just as easy to post "send a pm for info on my experience with X Company" as it is to say "the guys at X company are a bunch of crooks who should be shot."

Incidentally, Ebay allows postings with respect to specific transactions only because it gives the seller an opportunity to respond and the colloquy is there for everyone to see. It also provides legal cover because the parties (buyer and seller) agree to their terms and conditions, even when the exchanges are nasty.

Please don't be so quick to judge well-meaning and thoughtful forum members as harshly as you would an unscrupulous dealer.

Just remember that EVERY salesman is out to make money off of you. They are not your friend like they try to become. I bought my first Ferrari from The New Auto Toy Store in Florida. I knew about their history and that they were questionable to deal with. So I had an independent PPI done with Tim Stanford and everything worked out fine. However I think that it is good to post both good and bad experiences with dealerships.

This thread has turned into a discussion on whether we should be discussing bad experiences. Let's get back . . .

If you have had a bad experience, post it--facts only.

If you don't want to read this thread or are afraid of getting sued, don't read or don't post.

Those of us that are interested in this topic want to bring it back to where it started. So, let's pass on the side debate about whether we should be debating and get back to the, ahem, debate.

Unfortunately, if one of us posts and Rob gets sued, then we've created a problem for a good guy...and we might lose FChat.

On the topic of good dealer, bad dealer, "facts" will be VERY judgemental.
