Pardon me, wetpet, but who was killed in this video? I think your title is sensationalistic and disingenuous.

I'm not defending what the driver did, and, in fact, I think publicizing this was the worst thing he could have done given the ability of the law to go after him after the fact.

However, in direct contradiction to your comments, no one was injured in the making of that video. Maybe some bugs. It just goes to show that speed DOESN'T kill. I get it that you don't like speed, though.

I wonder what its like to hit a family of four in a minivan at that speed.

spirited driving is one thing , but that thing is a missle especially at night.

Joe you are correct it is bad--very bad!
I look at Minivans like they are the holy grail. All must watch out for them. There could be as many as 8 people, a dog, luggage or groceries in them.

Sheesh. I'm still trying to figure this out. You guys like Ferraris, but you don't like to drive fast? I'm not saying that you have to drive like a maniac every time you've ever gotten behind the wheel of one, but explain this to me. Is it this particular instance (young guy showing off), or all instances? Or, are you guys just having a piss? Sarcasm just doesn't come through on the web. Either way, it does seem that some of us end up on the opposite sides. Repeatedly.

I understand that should one lose control at that speed (or even a lot lower speed), they have the potential to do a lot of damage and destruction. But, then, by your own logic, why manufacture cars that can exceed the speed limit at all? I remember logging in to FerrariChat, though. Not ImWithTheFunPoliceChat or EveryoneWhoDrivesFastIsIrresponsibleChat.

And, you guys keep talking about what if he had hit this or that. The fact is that he didn't. He could have, certainly, but it also appears that he put spotters out on the course (at the very least to film this from the roadside perspective). While he couldn't make the run perfectly safe, he did put some thought into it. Besides, no location or conditions can be made perfectly safe.

I'm not suggesting that I do, am going to or even should run out, crank up the exotic, and do laps of the beltway at terminal velocity, but surely there's room for driving fast in semi-controlled conditions. And, for someone to say "take it to the track", I don't think there are that many tracks where one can get the car up to that speed. Possibly only a couple. Was he foolish? Probably, but he survived and didn't crash. So, I suppose it can be done, but there are always risks.

So, are you guys saying that you've never (and never will) exceed the speed limits? Or, it's just ok when you do it because you're qualified and in control and choose when, where and by how much to do it?

I will say, though, that bragging about this kind of an exploit will bring unwanted attention. And, that was just plain foolish on the driver's part. Poor judgment, that.

I like, own and shoot guns but even when I was young and showing off I did not use them in a reckless manner. If they were to hit a car pulling into the road, with your loved ones in it, who didn't realize their rate of speed would you still think it was ok?

"So, are you guys saying that you've never (and never will) exceed the speed limits?"

    Not me. Launch it!

Darron, quit preachin' beetotch. I've seen you in action (safely in the confines of a closed course with proper adult supervision and in a well lit adequately ventilated room. No chimps were harmed in the making....)

    Spang

P.S. Speed doesn't kill. Negative G's from the rapid deceleration of hitting a dump truck does. Speed just ramps up the G's and assures you of not having to deal with the police or anyone else for that matter. It's all good.
