Any new sources for replacement? Better yet, pictures showing where it goes? I am referring to #26 in the attached diagram. I am fairly certain mine was tied in a bracket that directed its mostly crumpled output in the general direction of the cats. Now I see recent postings claiming it is supposed to be directed *down* on the CV boot? Last 308 I looked at other than my own had it pointed at the rear headers (car had no cats).

    Thanks,
    Seamus

i am sure you can use any heat riser hose that usually goes from a duct on the exhaust manifold to somewhere on the air cleaner that will open up or close a flap for cold weather driving. car quest has these in all different diameters, i just bought some for an intake mod for my 308.

I't's purpose seems to be to get cooler into the general area between the engine/differential & the headers.

It is generally pointed towards the inner half-shaft boot which does seem to get baked w/o it.

To the best of my knowledge, no one has come up with a proper exact replacement. There was a long search in the old Fchat about the time I discovered mine was missing several years back. I even tried to find out how to contact the company that seems to make most of the after-market heat riser hose. Unfortunately, couldn't track them down from the brand name & info on the packages. Might be easier now tho.

I ended up using some plastic heater/ac vent tube (similar to the vinyl on coiled wire clothesdryer hose) that was the correct size. It was made by the same company that makes the heat riser hose. Got it from AutoZone.

It's been doing the job for about 4 hears.

    Who knew?

Mine's gone also...another thing to source and stuff down in there, wondering if a small electrical round cooling fan inserted in the tube might help cool that area or is this crazy over kill? I saw somewhere else on fchat a great mod with a small electrical fan to cool the oil cooler

FYI This outfit is doing a run of 10 sets of aluminum cooling tubes for Europa guys. He'll do a one off for like $550, and $125 each for the run of 10.

this guy claims to have a better replacement @ $249.
[email protected] 417-831-6065 know nothing else about it since I think it may be too pricey for a non OEM hose, he says it is NOT simply dryer hose and is much better. If anyone follows up or has more to add please post.

I don't even know what "original" would be, but I can 2nd that a VW (bug) shop had a perfectly usuable piece IMO. IIRC, it's part of the VW air heater ducting from the engine shrouding to the passenger cabin -- a fine-pitch aluminum foil over cardbord tube with corregated pleats -- that is it's bendable (but not much need for that in the 308 application).

That's the "VW" type too (at least I thought it was VW -- maybe was Porsche -- or both).

Yep, there is probably a VW site somwhere that sells these for $3.

Both the length and diameter of this one are EXACTLY the same as my original F-part.

Hey, my 1977 308 USA has no duct extension or hose. is that normal for a pre-cat USA car?

Yes. The extra duct and hose are not shown in the 75-77 US parts book.

    Thanks Kerry.

I used to own a 1983 308 GTS QV and I can say that car ran much hotter than my non-cat car. The engine bay would get piping hot, whereas my current 1977 308 does not, even after a long high-speed run.

That's why I vowed to only own a non-cat 308 if I ever got another one!

I may be off on this but I think I remember reading in Forza that the pre cat 308's had a "thermo-reactor" or something like that ( sort a of a pre cat - era emmissions device) that is by this time old and problematic and a major cause of the 308 car fires.
