I don't think they are even in production yet. Aren't they slated for 2007?

To be honest, the headlight pattern reminds me of a Tiburon (sp?) in how it sits on the car. Similar can be said about the side intake (though not the side intake bodyline obviously). You can see the greenhouse design is similar too. These are all coincidences though, but annoying ones none the less. You probably can get an aftermarket bumper (they make tons) that is in the new Jag's style, as well as taillights, and in the end you will have yourself a Korean Jag. :p

Personal note, I like Jags, but this car's only redeeming feature is its rather nice interior IMHO. If the E type once lived, it will be turning over in its grave. Maybe the convertible version will be better though.

I think it looks beautiful. A nice evolution of the current car, that is much sportier, and with a few nice E-Type elements sprinkeled in. That interior in 100x better than the current model. You will all be singing a different tune in a few months. It will go something like this....

    1> It's UGLY!
2> Hey, I saw that new Jag, it's ugly and looks like an Aston
3> Saw the new Jag again, it's not so bad.
4> You know what's starting to grow on me? The new Jag!
5> Picked up the new Jag! I love it
6> (everyone's reply) Great car, I love the styling, it looks like an Aston!!

Evo magazine did an interview with Ian Cullum where he explained the differences between the Jag styling and the DB7/9. They are admittedly confined to the details, but both being big sporty coupes, there just aren't that many shapes you can use. Basically he noted that the Aston is much more taunt, with sharper lines, while the Jag is more rounded and curvy.

Tell that to Ferrari with the 456, 550, and the 612...all of which look NOTHING alike.

To me, it's a much better Jaguar than any current Aston (except Vanquish) is one.

That car rules, il love it.

This new design of the XK is head & shoulders above the previous model inside and out. I still think the current model is a pretty nice looking car, but always felt it looked a bit dated even when introduced. Funny thing that, as to me the original E-type (on which the current XK is clearly styled) is one of the most classic timeless designs in automotive history. I think Jag went the right way with this restyle & if it does resemble an Aston then so be it as the Astons are incredibly beautiful cars. Although I doubt it'll happen let's hope a manual transmission will be an option this time around...

The 456 and the 612 are most certainly similiar if you apply the same criteria to them that is being applied in the DB7/9, AMV8, and XK8 comparison. The 550 is a 2 seater in case you haven't heard. ;)

Seriously, the Ferrari 2+2's are more different but not entirely different. Hell, every car is almost entirely different from one another but they share plenty of similiarities. Some more than others.

Climb down from the high horse. ;)

They will be available mid-late 2006 as a 2007 model. In fact, XK8 production is going to bump up against the new XK8 production where you will have 2 different cars that will be "born" in 2006, possibly titled 2006 per the Department of Transportation, but marketing "labels" the new XK8 a 2007 to prevent (or perhaps create) market confusion.

For the XJs with all these XJ6's running around, enthusiasts use factory designations and that will probably start with the XK8. You have Series 1, 2, 3, XJ40, X300, X308, X350...all but the last two are badged XJ6. The new XK is the X150.

I am bitter, I really liked the old model in person. :p

Oh and the 550 is as much a 2+2 as some of the other cars...:D

According to designer Callum, the XK's main styling cues have come from E Type. I'm struggling to see them myself :p

it's insulting mr. callum refers to the new xk as "e-type" inspired.if u look hard at the original sketches maybe, but to me this 2006 xk looks like a sad pastiche
of jaguar influences messed about with by an amatuer designer, which mr.callum
is most definitely not;so what happened?
i realise it looks "modern" and "ground-hugging";but i find very little elegance and
grace in this car.it's no SHAGUAR!
i realise ppl are entitled to their own views;but will u pls stop saying how
    "pretty" the ferrari 550/575 is?it's borderline crap/good.
a 4 seat gt of elegance of recent times is the ferrari 456.others include the
bentley conti gt,continental t/r,aston db7,v8 vantage and even that early 90's
buick riviera, which spawned the maserati quattroporte!

I think standard protocol around here when a new or updated model comes out is to find some vaguely similar yet much cheaper car that it sort-of looks like and then start complaining.

No only for ugly cars. I would never have said the same thing when the Vanquish or DB9 came out.

The fronts are made higher and bulky like that to comply with Euro pedestrian regulation. Unfortunately, we're going to see more cars with redesigned front ends but it will be a toss up if they will be as ugly as the new XK front end. :p

Edit: Don't get me started on the interior!! Nice touches, but they made it too appliance like inside. I guess it wouldn't sell otherwise.
