what makes a person a "ricer"? is it the look of the car? or is it how they go about promoting the performance of the car? if someone makes a "sleeper" civic does that make them a ricer? or does that just make them faster then u? some food for thought. I dont think it is right to laught at them either. And remember the Pantara crowd that changes the whole performace and look of the car with engines and body kits. hmm...

While i love all cars and there are some Hondas out there that are well done and tasteful, the ones with the gauges that are hooked up just so they light up and don't indicate anything, neon all over the place, slammed suspensions with stock wheels, graphics, fart pipes, I hate. It's funny how these guys drive around like they are in an Enzo but usually won't come anywhere near my car at a light (I have a mustang with off road pipes and flowmasters which sounds pretty nasty) Most of these guys are posers and that's why they get made fun of. A true car guy gets my respect always regardless of tastes.

I don't think there is a problem with "ricers". Those who build them obviously have a love for cars, and its their passion. Nothing wrong with that. And when enough time and money is spent working on these cars, they are unbelievable. The reason the compacts are used as starting blocks is that they are affordable and easy to work on. I'm 17, selling my Cavalier (POS), and looking at buying a Focus or maybe a newer Cavalier (that isn't beat up.) Believe me, I would buy a muscle car if I could afford it. Whatever car I get, I would hope I could afford to work on it, make it fast (for lack of a better term) and look good. There really isn't a reason to make fun of these cars, and not all of the drivers are total jerks about it.

The original "ricer" look was an attempt to have the cars look like WRC cars which I like a lot. But, some owners do go a little overboard.

Ok, I’ve stayed out of this as long as I can. Some may think my widebody street ported RX-7 w/ turbo whale tail & extreme front lip is ricey. Esp w/ the Dino mahogany wheel & Momo knob not to mention all the bling under the hood. The car definitely has a distinct sound at 8000 rpms w/ the Holley 750dp & Racing Beat head to tail duel system. Yeah, sounds almost as good as a V12. Oops, almost forgot the Kenwood sound sys. Its Japanese & extreme. Am I rice?

Ok.... now im pissed off at every "ricer" in Atlanta. My friend with a gorgeous Mazada and about $2,000 in wheels and tyres had them stolen last night. They know what the car looks like and it is exactly what everyone is saying is "ricer".

The car is so nice under the hood and inside. Oh man I'm mad.

I can't stand this new gen of car guys and there modifed Imports and Domestics. CIVICS, SUPRAS,RUSTANGS AND SKYLINES CANT BEAT A FERRARI OR A LAMBORGHINI WITHOUT MODS OR NAWS!. I dont care how fast they are i wouldnt drive a modifed Honda over a true supercar. Most people dont do it for the fun of it they do it to get more friends and woman or my favorite "respect".

Any ricer whats to race me id tell them to save up and get a real car, you can start by cutting my grass in that 10second lawnmower of yours.

Not everybody can afford a supercar and have to make due with what they have, Some of us weren't born with a silver spoon up our ass. Thanks for being so narrow minded.

I'm sorry to see you post this! I can think of many Panteras that are NOWHERE near original exterior or in non modified condition. Heck, my Stock MR2 Turbo will throttle a stock Pantera L or Pre L for that matter. It'll also run neck and neck with a Ferrari 348 all day long without any check engine lights coming on. I'd love to have both of them though. Why, different driving experience. Better? No, just different.

    Sad.

Most people who can afford a true supercar probably wouldnt either, but most people cant so they do the next best thing modify what they can afford. Dollar for dollar a correctly modified skyline or even a lowly honda offers more bang for the buck than say an fcar or lambo, but then again fcars and the like arent all about sheer performance. As far as the comment about people doing it for for the wrong reasons the same could be said or even more so about stereotypical supercar drivers. They dont buy the car because they like it or like performance driving, they buy it to impress people, get women, and respect. I think there is a big difference between a riced car and a tastefully modified car, and I don't like cars that are riced up with stupid useless mods.

That's pretty much my take on it. A car Enthusiast is a car Enthusiast; whether you like modifying imports or buying supercars. But I agree with the last sentence as well. Some mods are pretty useless, like the Nitrous, the big spoilers on Front wheel drive cars, or the big coffee can exhausts. Thats my definition of a "ricer".

I have no problem with people modifing there cars, puting what ever onto it. If you want a 747 sized wing on your civic, fine with me. What ever floats your boat.

Exactly, a car guy is a car guy, regardless of taste. I must admit the import shows have better women.
